This example shows three versions of a privacy policy for rcn.io as a side-by-side comparison of text documents. The visualization uses D3.js to render the text, with a focus on how the policy changes across versions, from a brief survey statement to a comprehensive legal document. The code applies D3’s layout and selection methods to position and style the text blocks, highlighting differences in length and content structure. The data is derived directly from the provided markdown files, displayed as raw text without additional transformation.

This gallery example visualizes the discrepancy between two versions of an Individual Contributor License Agreement. It presents a side-by-side comparison of the original text and a proposed rewrite, highlighting the specific additions, deletions, and modifications made. The visualization uses the `d3.js` library to render the text-based data, differentiating between unchanged, added, and removed segments through distinct visual encoding. The rendering approach focuses on a line-by-line diff analysis, with the source data being directly embedded within the HTML file.

This example is a Markdown document outlining threat modeling for online privacy, organized as a structured set of questions and linked resources. It is not a graphical visualization, but rather a text-based reference compiled from sources like the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) and WikiWand. The content lists steps for assessing data protection needs, potential attackers, and mitigation tools such as passwords, encryption, and VPNs. It uses plain Markdown formatting with headings, bullet lists, and hyperlinks, and does not implement any data visualization libraries or APIs.

This visualization renders the text of Project Alexandria’s whitepaper as a static, scrolling document, displaying each paragraph’s content alongside its citation links. The code uses D3.js to create a force-directed network of the document’s words and references, with `d3.forceSimulation` positioning nodes that represent terms and links from the paper. The rendering approach uses SVG elements to draw the text and connecting lines, sourced directly from the included Markdown file’s parsed content.

C++ Coding Standards

This visualization compares the content and structure of four Markdown documents detailing C++ coding standards, sourced from a gist by IoTeacher. It presents the documents as a series of colored blocks, with each block representing a section or paragraph, allowing for a side-by-side comparison of the documents' lengths and organizational flow. The layout is static, with no interactive elements, and the rendering likely uses a simple HTML/CSS grid or flexbox layout to display the document blocks. The visualization shows the proportional size of each document's sections, such as "Automated Code Analysis," "Style," "Performance and Safety," and "References," at a glance.

Gist of a stolen gist

This example visualizes the structure of a “stolen gist” — a curated piracy resource list — as an interactive hierarchical map. It shows the document’s nested sections and subsections as collapsible, color-coded nodes, revealing the organization of topics like torrenting, Usenet, and streaming. Built with React, it uses a custom recursive rendering of the markdown headings, with d3.forceSimulation to position nodes and CSS transitions for expand/collapse animations, sourced directly from the raw gist file.

FERPA Disclaimer adapted from G. Christopher Clark, Notre Dame University See http://ltlatnd.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/taking-steps-to-respect-student-privacy-in-public-work/

This example visualizes the textual content of a FERPA-style privacy disclaimer as a static typographic layout. It shows the complete disclaimer text, including the policy statements, signature blocks, and adaptation credits, in a single column of rendered HTML. The visualization relies on standard DOM elements and CSS for styling, with no JavaScript data-driven rendering or charting libraries present. The source material is the plain-text `disclaimer.md` file, displayed directly without transformation, and the layout is achieved through basic HTML structure rather than D3, Canvas, or other visualization APIs.

Gist 9204169

A network diagram of the Gist 9204169 comment thread uses a force-directed layout via `d3.forceSimulation` to arrange nodes by user interaction. The graph renders comment relationships as links, with node colors and sizes encoding the original poster’s query and the city’s response about PDF/A archival formats. Data comes from the embedded `message.md` and `response.md` files, parsed into JSON. Hovering highlights connected nodes, while the visualization also uses `d3.geoPath` only for map context, though no geographic data appears. The example emphasizes how open-data requests and bureaucratic replies form a conversational structure.

This visualization presents a structured classroom activity focused on data confidentiality and professional ethics for TICS students, displayed as a markdown-based instructional document. The example embeds a single high-resolution educational image and details a 50-minute lesson plan with interactive exercises, including role-playing scenarios and decision-making polls. It does not use JavaScript libraries or rendering APIs; instead, it relies on static HTML content and a self-contained markdown file with embedded images to convey the pedagogical workflow. The visual emphasizes clear textual organization and step-by-step guidance rather than dynamic data-driven graphics.
