This example visualizes the complete list of named curves from Wolfram Alpha as a word cloud. It shows the distribution and frequency of curve names, with more common terms displayed larger. The visualization uses D3.js and its `d3.forceSimulation` for layout, with text elements positioned dynamically based on a collision-avoidance algorithm. The data comes from a JSON gist file containing hundreds of curve names, and the rendering highlights the variety and naming conventions across mathematical and pop-culture references.

Weighted nodes and curved links v4

This force-directed graph visualizes word co-occurrence in a dataset of government, military, gender, media, trade, and science terms. Node size reflects word frequency, and links connect co-occurring words. The graph uses `d3.forceSimulation` with `d3.forceLink`, `d3.forceManyBody`, and `d3.forceCollide` forces to position related words closer together. Nodes are rendered as circles with labels, and curves are drawn as SVG paths. The data is a JSON file based on word co-occurrence, not the original Les Misérables character data.

This example plots a parametric curve of Mickey Mouse’s head and ears using a Fourier-style sum of sine waves. The visualization shows the iconic silhouette generated from 100 points, each computed via two long trigonometric expressions for the x and y coordinates. The code uses Power Query’s `Table` and `List.Accumulate` to generate the point table, while the actual plotting relies on DAX table expressions that define the coordinate formulas. The rendering approach is implicit, with the curve drawn as a continuous line from the calculated points, and the source data is purely synthetic, created from the mathematical functions rather than external data.

Fork of Word Cloud Example

This word cloud visualization displays physics-related terms and definitions scraped from sources like Wikipedia and dictionaries, with word size encoding frequency. Built with the d3.layout.cloud plugin by Jason Davies, it places words in an 800x300 SVG canvas from a JSON array of text-size pairs, with all words rotated at zero degrees. The code uses d3.scale.linear to map frequency values to grayscale colors, and renders text elements via d3’s SVG selection API.

Word Cloud

This word cloud visualization displays the frequency of terms related to physics, with larger words like "physics," "matter," and "energy" appearing more prominently. The visualization uses D3.js v4 with the d3.layout.cloud library to position words in a dense, rotated layout. Data from a JavaScript array supplies the text and size values, which are rendered as SVG text elements. The layout algorithm calculates word positions to fill the 560x400 canvas without overlapping.

Word Cloud Example

This example displays a word cloud of physics-related terms, with font size encoding each word's frequency from the provided dataset. It uses the `d3.layout.cloud` plugin to compute the layout and renders the result as SVG text elements with D3 v3. The cloud rotates words at zero degrees and applies a grayscale color scale based on frequency. An animation gradually places each word into position as the layout algorithm runs.

This example shows a force-directed network graph where nodes are connected by curved links, with a color scheme that differentiates clusters. The visualization uses D3.js’s `forceSimulation` API to compute the physics-based layout, while the links are drawn as Bézier curves using the `d3.geoPath` generator. Node positions and link paths are updated iteratively in a custom simulation loop, with the rendering performed on an HTML5 Canvas element. The code reads a static JSON dataset embedded within the HTML file, providing the node and link definitions for the graph.

Word Cloud Example

This example shows a word cloud visualization that displays frequency-weighted terms from JSON datasets, with buttons to toggle between family names and first names. The code uses D3 v3’s `d3.layout.cloud` plugin to arrange words in a spiral layout, scaling font size with `d3.scale.linear` based on each term’s count. Rendering occurs as SVG text elements styled with Impact font and a categorical color scale, while a setTimeout-driven animation progressively places words until the layout completes.

bad words

This visualization presents a force-directed network of profanity-related terms, where each word is a node connected to others based on shared letters or textual relationships. The graph uses `d3.forceSimulation` to position nodes and `d3.forceLink` to draw edges, with node size and color mapping to word frequency or category. The underlying data comes from a text list of explicit terms, parsed into a graph structure in JavaScript. Labels appear on hover, and the layout stabilizes after several ticks, revealing clusters of related slang and sexual terminology.
