Forked from Menu

A dropdown menu offers six color choices, while a scatter-like column of circles encodes two fixed numeric datasets. The circle positions and colors update only when the menu selection changes. Built with D3 v7, the example uses a `select` join to bind options, `interpolateRdYlGn` for the circle fill gradient, and custom `menu` and `treeCoder` modules to render the SVG elements.

This example demonstrates a simple interactive menu for selecting a color from a predefined palette. It uses D3 v7’s `select` and `join` methods to render an HTML `<select>` element with options for six colors, updating the displayed selection as the user changes the value. The code separates the menu logic into a reusable function and leverages a state management pattern to track the current choice. The visualization itself is minimal, showing only the dropdown on a grey background, with no further graphical output beyond the menu.

Example

A scatter plot displays the relationship between two selectable attributes of a dataset, with red semi-transparent circles animating from the center to their scaled positions. Two dropdown menus, built with a reusable `dropdownMenu` module, allow users to choose which columns map to the x- and y-axes. The chart uses D3 v5’s `scaleLinear`, `axisBottom`, `axisLeft`, and `transition.attr` to update axes and points with a staggered delay. SVG rendering with CSS-styled ticks and labels completes the interactive visualization.

A dropdown menu lets users choose among dog, cat, or fish. The menu is built with d3.select, joining option elements to an HTML select element and binding each option’s value and label from a static array. The change event logs the selected option’s data to the console, demonstrating a minimal d3-based form control without any linked visualization.

Menu Options in D3

This example shows a dropdown menu for selecting a pet, with options ranging from Dog to Duck. The visualization uses D3 v7 to render the menu, managing state through a custom `setState` function that tracks the currently selected value. When a user changes the selection, the `menu` function updates the option elements using D3’s data join, and the selected value is logged to the console. The menu’s appearance is styled with CSS, centering it on the page.

add Menus

Animated D3 scenes show a grid of multi-layered circular targets made from nested circles in shades of blue, green, and yellow. Each component moves from the screen center to its final grid position via D3 transitions. The example builds menus with the custom `dropdownMenu` function, while circle radii are calculated algorithmically per level. Rendering uses SVG elements and includes a zoom feature that applies a transform to the graphics group.

Menu with D3

This example demonstrates how to add an interactive dropdown menu to a D3 visualization, showing the selected car brand as a text message. It uses D3’s data-join pattern to bind menu options to a `select` element, updating the displayed text when the selection changes. Bootstrap’s `form-select` class styles the dropdown, while D3’s `on('change')` listener updates the application state via the `setState` function. The code highlights a clean separation between UI rendering and state management, making it a practical template for incorporating menus into larger D3 projects.

Multiple Menus with D3

Three dropdown menus labeled X, Y, and Color let a user select values from a fixed set of car brands, with a message below updating to reflect the current selections. The example uses D3’s `select`, `selectAll`, and `join` to bind the menus and options to data, and a state management pattern with `setState` to track changes across menu interactions. Bootstrap classes provide the layout and styling for the form controls and container.

Scatter Plot with Menus

Two dropdown menus let viewers select which columns of a dataset appear on the x- and y-axes of a scatter plot. The visualization uses D3 v5’s `scaleLinear`, `axisBottom`, `axisLeft`, and `extent` functions to map numeric values, while a custom `dropdownMenu` module builds the `<select>` elements. Circles animate into position with `transition().duration(2000)` and a staggered delay, and the data comes from a CSV file containing movie attributes like budget, gross, and IMDb score.
