The visualization displays the top five most populous countries with circles scaled by population, using color-coded labels beneath each. It animates circle growth and text fading in sequentially using d3.transition, with data from the World Bank Group. The SVG rendering uses d3.select and joins to create and update circle and text elements, applying staggered delays for a polished effect.

top 5 country of population

An animated bar chart visualizes the top five most populous countries in 2024, using transitioning circles on a black background to rank India, China, the United States, Indonesia, and Pakistan. Each circle’s size reflects relative population, with labels appearing sequentially. The visualization is built with the D3.js library, using its `select`, `transition`, and `easeLinear` API to animate the circles’ radii, positions, and label opacity over time. Data is sourced from World Population Review’s “Total Population by Country 2024.”

Population by country Bar Chart

This bar chart displays the populations of the top five most populated countries, scaled in millions. Built with D3 v5, it renders as an SVG using `d3.scaleLinear` for the x-axis, `d3.scaleBand` for the categorical y-axis, and `d3.scaleOrdinal` for country-specific colors. The data comes from the United Nations World Population Prospects 2019, loaded via `d3.csv`, with axes and tick formatting generated through `d3.axisBottom` and `d3.axisLeft`.

Top Populous Countries Bar Chart

This bar chart displays the populations of the five most populous countries, with each bar’s height and label reflecting the raw population figure. The visualization is built with D3 v6, using `d3.scaleBand` for the categorical x-axis, `d3.scaleLinear` for the continuous y-axis, and `d3.axisBottom` and `d3.axisLeft` to render the axes. Population values are shown directly above each bar as SVG text labels, and the chart is rendered entirely as inline SVG elements within the page.

Population per most populated countries

This visualization displays population data for the most populated countries as circles positioned on a scatterplot, using d3.scaleLinear for x and y axes. The SVG rendering includes d3.axisBottom and d3.axisLeft for coordinates. The code currently plots static circle elements using data binding with d3.selectAll and .enter().append('circle'), though population data appears to be represented by the predefined coordinate array rather than loaded external data.

Largest 5 Countries

A bar chart displays the populations of the five most populous countries, sorted in descending order, with a tooltip revealing each country’s exact population value. The visualization is built using the Vega-Lite API, which programs a bar mark with a numeric y-axis and categorical x-axis, all rendered as an SVG via the `vl.render()` method. Data is fetched as CSV from a remote GitHub gist using D3’s `csv` function, with styling customized through a configuration object.

Largest 5 Countries

This visualization shows the five most populous countries each year, using a bar chart that sorts countries by population descending and displays the population values for each. The data is loaded from a CSV file containing population by country and year, which is fetched using the `d3.csv` function. The visualization is built using the `vega-lite-api` library, with the chart specification defined in `viz.js` using the `vl.markBar()` and `vl.encode()` methods. The rendering is handled by `vega` and `vega-lite`, with interactive tooltips enabled through `vega-tooltip`.

Largest 5 Countries

This visualization uses a bar chart to display the population counts of the largest 5 countries, with bars sorted by population size and labeled with country names. It is built with Vega-Lite API, which generates the chart using D3.js for rendering. Population data is loaded from a CSV file via D3’s `csv` function, and the tooltip shows the numeric population value. The chart is configured with customized axis styles and dark text for better readability, using the vega-tooltip handler for interactive display.

Top 5 U.S. Cities by Population in 2023

This animated visualization displays the top five most populous U.S. cities in 2023, with circles scaled by the square root of each city's population and labeled with the city name and exact population figure. The chart uses a dark radial-gradient background and color-coded radial gradients for each circle. Built with D3.js version 7.8.5, the code leverages the `select`, `transition`, and `easeLinear` APIs to manage the animated entrance of elements, delaying the growth of each circle and the fading in of its labels. The underlying data comes from a Wikipedia list of U.S. cities by population.
