This example demonstrates the D3.js General Update Pattern by animating a bowl of fruit, where apples and lemons are added, removed, or replaced over time. It shows how data joins and enter/update/exit selections handle dynamic changes to a simple SVG scene. The code uses d3.scaleOrdinal for color and radius mappings, d3.select for DOM manipulation, and d3.range to generate initial data. Rendered as SVG rectangles, circles, and text, it illustrates reusable component patterns with a modular fruitBowl function.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates the general update pattern in D3.js by animating a bowl of fruit as apples are eaten and replaced with lemons over time. The visualization uses SVG circles and text labels rendered through a custom `fruitBowl` function, which leverages `selection.enter()`, `selection.merge()`, and `selection.exit()` to handle data joins. The code applies ordinal scales from `d3.scaleOrdinal` for fruit colors and radii, and uses `d3.select` and `setTimeout` to trigger sequential state changes from the initial five apples.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit- General Update Pattern with animation

A fork of the Bowl of Fruit example demonstrates the D3 general update pattern for dynamic data changes over time. Five apples render as SVG circles with colored fills and text labels, transitioning through three state changes: removing a fruit, replacing an apple with a lemon, and filtering out another item. Using d3.scaleOrdinal for color and radius, the code binds data to groups, appending and merging enter selections while handling exit removals, with each update triggered by setTimeout calls.

Bowl of Fruit -General update pattern

The example demonstrates D3’s general update pattern by animating a bowl of fruit where apples and lemons appear, change, and disappear over time. It shows a dynamic SVG scene with circles colored and sized by fruit type, plus text labels, updating as the data array mutates. Using D3’s scaleOrdinal for color and radius, the code performs data joins with selection.selectAll, appending, merging, and removing elements across three timed transitions. The rendering is entirely SVG, driven by the fruitBowl module and D3 5.12.0.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

A dynamic SVG visualization demonstrates the D3 general update pattern by rendering a changing bowl of fruit. Rows of apple and lemon circles shift position as fruit are removed or transformed over time, with colors and radii mapped via ordinal scales. The code uses D3 v6 with `selection.enter()`, `selection.merge()`, and `selection.exit()` to manage data joins, updating circle and text elements in response to timed JavaScript state changes.

Fork of Bowl of fruit - General Update Pattern

A demonstration of D3's general update pattern shows a changing bowl of fruit, where apples are removed, replaced by lemons, or eaten over time. The visualization displays each fruit as a circle with a label, using ordinal scales for color and radius to distinguish types. The code applies incremental updates to SVG groups via D3's selection merge and exit methods, orchestrating changes with `setTimeout` calls to trigger sequential state changes. The example is built with D3 v6 and renders to SVG.

Bowl of Fruit- General Update pattern

This example demonstrates the D3.js general update pattern by animating a bowl of fruit, where apples are eaten, replaced with lemons, and removed over time. It uses D3 selections with enter, merge, and exit methods to manage dynamic data binding, rendering SVG circles and text elements via a reusable `fruitBowl` function. The visualization employs `d3.scaleOrdinal` to map fruit types to colors and radii, with the data driven by timed `setTimeout` callbacks that modify a hardcoded fruits array.

Fork of Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates the general update pattern in D3, showing how fruit shapes transition as apples are eaten, replaced with a lemon, and filtered out over time. An SVG bowl displays colored circles, with apples in red and lemons in yellow, positioned horizontally. The code uses D3 v5’s `selectAll`, `enter`, `merge`, and `exit` methods to handle data joins, along with `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mapping. Sequential `setTimeout` calls trigger state changes, while the `fruitBowl` function updates circle attributes based on the current fruit array.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates the D3 general update pattern for data joins, showing a bowl of fruit that changes over time as apples are eaten or replaced with lemons. The visualization uses D3 v5 with SVG rendering, where circles and text labels are bound to an array of fruit objects. The code explicitly handles enter, update, and exit selections through `selection.merge()` and `selection.exit().remove()`, while `scaleOrdinal` maps fruit types to colors and radii. A series of `setTimeout` callbacks triggers state changes, animating the transitions between the three fruit configurations.
