Board Game Dataset Schnair
This visualization explores the top-ranked board games from the BoardGameGeek dataset, showing raw JSON data loaded from a semicolon-delimited CSV file. The code uses d3.csvParse with a custom semicolon parser to convert string values to quantitative numbers for attributes like rating, play time, and complexity. The visualization initially displays "Loading Data" before fetching and parsing the dataset, then renders the full array of game objects as formatted JSON text for inspection.
AI-generated descriptionDescription: "This dataset contains data collected on board games from the BoardGameGeek (BGG) website in February 2021. BGG is the largest online collection of board game data which consists of data on more than 100,000 total games (ranked and unranked).
The voluntary online community contributes to the site with reviews, ratings, images, videos, session reports and live discussion forums on the expanding database of board games.
This data set contains all ranked games (~20,000) as of the date of collection from the BGG database. Unranked games are ignored as they have not been rated by enough BGG users (a game should receive at least 30 votes to be eligible for ranking)." - Kaggle
I would probably narrow this down to the top 500 or 1000 games. I frequent this website myself and it's interesting to see the timecapsule of 2021 rankings. Interesting to see what is still popular and what has been surpassed in the rankings.
