Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates D3’s general update pattern by animating a bowl of fruit as apples are added, removed, or converted to lemons. Circles and labels enter, update, and exit with staggered transitions, using keyed data joins and ordinal scales for color and radius. The code relies on `selection.enter`, `merge`, `exit`, and `transition` to animate position, size, and fill over one-second durations. SVG rendering with D3 v5 drives the visualization, which is orchestrated by timed function calls in `index.js`.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

An animated bowl of fruit demonstrates D3’s general update pattern, showing five fruits that disappear or change type over time. The SVG visualization uses a single reusable `fruitBowl` function, which binds data arrays to `g` groups via `selection.data()`, then handles enter, update, and exit selections with `enter().append()`, `merge()`, and `exit().remove()`. Fruit appearance relies on `scaleOrdinal` color and radius scales, while timed `setTimeout` calls trigger data mutations—removing apples or replacing one with a lemon—to illustrate smooth transitions in the rendered circles and labels.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

A bowl of fruit demonstrates the D3 general update pattern as circles and labels enter, update, and exit with animated transitions. The example uses D3 v5's `selection.data`, `selection.enter`, `selection.merge`, and `selection.exit` to manage SVG groups. `d3.scaleOrdinal` maps fruit types to colors and radii, while chained `transition.duration` calls animate position, size, and fill over one second. The code mutates a fruits array at timed intervals—removing items, changing a type, and filtering—to show how the visualization responds. Rendering is SVG-based.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates the D3 general update pattern with a bowl of fruit rendered as animated SVG circles. Five apples appear, then transition through enter, update, and exit phases as fruits are removed or transformed into lemons. The code uses d3.scaleOrdinal for color and radius mappings, selection.data with a key function, and chained .transition().duration() calls to animate circle attributes. Fruit identities are tracked via random IDs, allowing smooth morphing between states over a three-second timeline.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates the D3 general update pattern by animating a bowl of fruit rendered as SVG circles. Apples and lemons appear as red and yellow circles with different radii, with enter, update, and exit transitions over one-second durations. The code uses `selection.data` with a key function, `merge`, `transition`, and `attr` to handle dynamic changes. D3’s `scaleOrdinal` maps fruit types to colors and sizes, while `setTimeout` schedules fruit removal and type replacement events.

Bowl of Fruit- General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates the general update pattern in D3 by animating a bowl of fruit represented as circles. It shows how data joins handle entering, updating, and exiting elements: apples appear, one is removed, another changes to a lemon, and a third disappears. The code uses `selection.data`, `.enter()`, `.merge()`, `.exit()`, and `transition.attr`. It relies on `d3.scaleOrdinal` for color and radius scales, and renders with SVG circles in a fixed 960×500 viewport. Animated transitions adjust circle positions and radii over one-second durations.

Bowl of Fruit-General Update Pattern

Five fruit circles render as apples and shift position, change type, or disappear over time. The example demonstrates D3’s general update pattern with data joins, using `selection.enter`, `merge`, and `exit` to handle entering, updating, and exiting elements. Each state transition animates circle radius and position via `transition().duration(1000)`, while `scaleOrdinal` maps fruit type to color and size. The visualization uses an SVG rendering approach with D3 v5 and randomly generated fruit IDs as the data source.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates the general update pattern in D3.js by animating a bowl of fruit. It shows how data joins handle entering, updating, and exiting elements as apples are eaten or replaced with lemons. Using d3.scaleOrdinal for color and radius mappings, circles transition smoothly over one-second durations. The code uses d3.select, selection.data with a key function, .merge(), and transition.duration to manage state changes on an SVG canvas.
