This chart displays the 100 largest U.S. cities by population in 2020, with blue circles sized using a square-root scale and colored by population. It uses D3’s `geoAlbers` projection to render state boundaries via `geoPath`, then overlays city locations as `circle` elements positioned through the same projection. City population data comes from a CSV hosted on GitHub, and the underlying map uses the `us-atlas` states-10m GeoJSON. The visualization is built with React and SVG.

I used the U.S. Geo Map of State Boundaries for the underlying map. In this iteration, I used the geoAlbers projection to clean up and zoom in on the map. While other projection types appear to gracefully handle a lat/long input of 0, it returns null with this projection, which causes a fatal error when you reference the scaled pixel locations.
