Bowl of Fruit - Click to Select

Five apples are rendered as red circles in an SVG bowl, and a timed sequence demonstrates D3 data joins by eating, replacing, and filtering fruits. Each apple is a circle with a label, positioned via a transform attribute using index-based spacing. The code uses `d3.scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mapping, while `selection.enter` and `selection.exit` manage element updates. The fruit data is an array of objects, and the visualization updates through repeated calls to a `fruitBowl` render function.

Bowl of fruit

A dynamic SVG bowl of fruit demonstrates the enter, update, and exit pattern in D3 v5. The visualization initially renders five red apples as circles with labels, then sequentially removes one apple, changes a second apple into a yellow lemon, and filters out another fruit over timed intervals. Using `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mapping, the code applies `selection.merge` to update shared attributes and manages transitions with `attr` for x-position and radius. The example relies on `setTimeout` callbacks to trigger re-renders and shows how data joins handle dynamic changes.

A bowl of fruit displays five red apples as circles in an SVG, then demonstrates D3.js data joins by removing one apple after a second and turning another into a yellow lemon after two seconds. Using d3.select, d3.range, and scaleOrdinal, the code binds an array of fruit objects to circle elements, handling enter, update, and exit selections with merge and remove methods. The color and radius scales map fruit types to visual properties, showing how D3 manages dynamic DOM updates.

Bowl of Fruit - Click to Select

A bowl of five apples renders as red circles in an SVG, with each fruit labeled by type. The visualization demonstrates data joins through timed state changes: one apple disappears, another becomes a lemon, and a third is removed. The code uses D3 v5 with modular functions `fruitBowl` and scales from `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius, updating circles and text via enter/update/exit selections.

Bowl of fruit

A bowl of fruit shows five apples in a wide rounded rectangle, with one apple changing to a lemon and fruits being removed over time. The visualization uses D3 v5 with SVG rendering, binding fruit data to groups containing circles and text labels. d3.scaleOrdinal maps fruit types to colors and radii, while enter, update, and exit selections manage dynamic changes triggered by setTimeout intervals.

Bowl of fruit - click to select

A bowl of fruit displays five apples as red circles, which users can click to highlight with a black stroke. Over time, apples disappear and one transforms into a lemon, demonstrating dynamic data updates. The visualization uses D3 v5 with a modular import of `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius scales, while `select`, `range`, and `transition` handle SVG circle creation, removal, and animated resizing. Selection state triggers re-rendering via a callback, showcasing enter, update, and exit patterns.

Bowl of fruit - general update pattern

Five apples appear as red circles in an SVG, arranged horizontally above a bowl. Following a timed script, the visualization removes an apple, changes an apple to a yellow lemon, and removes another, demonstrating D3’s general update pattern. The code uses `selection.selectAll`, `.enter()`, `.merge()`, and `.exit()` with a `transition().duration(1000)` to animate radius and x-position changes, while `scaleOrdinal` maps fruit types to colors and sizes.
