This example demonstrates pan and zoom interaction on the map of the Skeld ship from Among Us. Users can drag the image to move it and use the scroll wheel to zoom in and out. The visualization uses React with D3 v4’s zoom behavior, applied to an SVG group containing an image element. The image is loaded from the Among Us Wiki and displayed at a fixed 500 by 400 pixel size.

Zoom Skeleton

This example demonstrates a zoomable SVG visualization built with React and D3, showing a simple text label that can be panned and scaled using the mouse wheel or drag gestures. The code fetches JSON data and performs data transformations with `d3.rollup` and `d3.filter`, though the rendered output remains minimal. The zoom behavior is implemented via `d3.zoom`, which updates a React state transform that is applied to a group element using SVG `transform` attributes. The visualization uses React hooks like `useState`, `useEffect`, and `useContext` to manage the SVG stage and zoom container, with D3’s event handling integrated through the `select` API.

Zoom + Pan

This example demonstrates interactive zooming and panning on a simple coordinate grid with axes, controlled both by mouse gestures and on-screen buttons. The visualization uses d3.behavior.zoom to link the scale domains to user input, with the axes redrawn on each zoom event. Button clicks trigger animated transitions that adjust the zoom scale or translate the view, recalculating the center point in data space to maintain focus. The rendering uses SVG with d3.v3, and the code explicitly handles coordinate conversion between screen and data space via the zoom object's scale and translate properties.

Zooming and Panning

Four multicolored circles arranged in a square pattern sit at the center of an SVG canvas. The visualization demonstrates zooming and panning through d3.behavior.zoom, which captures mouse wheel drags and touch gestures. Users can scale the view between 1× and 10× magnification and pan freely by dragging. The circles’ positions are defined in data arrays and rendered as SVG circle elements with a translate transform applied to the parent group during zoom events.

D3 Zoom

A D3 zoom interface demonstrates interactive panning and scaling within an SVG coordinate system. A single green circle, positioned through linear scales, responds to mouse wheel and drag gestures that trigger the `d3.zoom` behavior. The example simultaneously updates axis tick marks via `transform.rescaleX` and `rescaleY`, while displaying the current translation values and zoom multiplier in separate HTML divs. The visualization renders with SVG elements, using `d3.axisBottom`, `d3.axisLeft`, and `d3.scaleLinear` to maintain spatial mapping during the zoom transform.

Drag + Zoom

In this example, dots loaded from a TSV file are positioned in an SVG scatterplot with a light grid. Users can drag individual circles to move them, while clicking and dragging on the background pans the view, and the mousewheel zooms the entire scene. The code combines `d3.behavior.drag` and `d3.behavior.zoom`, using `stopPropagation` in the dragstarted handler to give dragging precedence over panning. Both behaviors update the container's transform attribute via the zoom event's translate and scale values, with dragged circles updating their cx and cy attributes.

Zoom Interation World Map

This interactive world map allows users to pan and zoom by dragging or using the scroll wheel, with the view transform applied to a group element containing all marks. The visualization renders graticules, country boundaries, and interior borders using d3.geoPath with the natural Earth projection, plus two static city points connected by a red line. Data is sourced from the `world-atlas` TopoJSON and a world cities CSV, with zoom handling implemented through D3's `zoom` behavior within a React component.

zoom in/out and drag

This interactive world map visualizes the number of space launches at each location, with circle radius scaled by launch count. Users can drag to pan and zoom the map freely, while hovering over a circle reveals its exact launch count and location. Built with React and d3.v5, the visualization loads world topology data from a JSON file and launch statistics from a CSV source. It uses d3's `geoNaturalEarth1` projection, `geoPath` for map rendering, `scaleSqrt` for circle sizing, and a custom zoom interaction that transforms the SVG element. The map displays landmasses, graticules, and interiors as separate styled paths.

Zoom + Pan

This example demonstrates how to pan and zoom a chart using D3.js v3. It renders an SVG with axes and a filled background rectangle, using linear scales for the x- and y- dimensions. The `d3.behavior.zoom` API links the zoom behavior to the scales, allowing mouse wheel and drag interactions to rescale the axes. When zooming occurs, the axes are redrawn to reflect the updated scale ranges. The code sets a zoom scale extent between 1 and 32, and uses `d3.svg.axis` to produce the tick marks and grid lines.
