This piece generates an abstract, colorful composition of rectangular blocks that repeat across a grid. Each block is subdivided into smaller vertical and horizontal strips with randomized RGB colors. D3 masks, defined by large scaled path symbols, selectively reveal and hide portions of the strips, creating a complex interlocking pattern. The code uses D3’s `select`, `range`, `symbols`, and custom mask rendering to build the SVG.

Fork of Fork of Fork of Sol LeWitt-Inspired Shapes

This generative art piece renders a grid of colorful rectangular blocks, each filled with a random RGB color. It shows a tiled composition of horizontal and vertical stripes, with alternating masked regions that reveal two different Sol LeWitt-inspired geometric symbols per tile. The work uses D3.js (v7.8.5) to build an SVG scene, creating random colors, applying SVG masks (defined via `renderMask`) to alternate between the two symbol shapes, and arranging rows and columns dynamically based on window dimensions. The code also uses D3’s `selectAll` and `join` for efficient DOM updates.

Fork of Fork of Sol LeWitt-Inspired Shapes

An abstract SVG composition fills the browser window with randomly colored bars and rectangles, arranged in a grid of six columns. It uses D3's `d3.symbol` to generate six distinct mask shapes that alternately reveal or conceal overlapping layers. The code creates a dynamic pattern through `d3.range` loops, applying SVG `<rect>` elements and `mask` filters. Each column cycles through randomized RGB colors, producing a chaotic, generative artwork inspired by Sol LeWitt, rendered entirely client-side with D3 v7.

Fork of Fork of Fork of Sol LeWitt-Inspired Shapes

This visualization generates a grid of Sol LeWitt-inspired abstract compositions using randomized geometric shapes and colors. Each block combines horizontal slats, vertical stripes, and filled rectangles that are partially hidden by SVG masks shaped like D3 symbols (circles, crosses, diamonds, and other glyphs). The rendering approach uses D3 selections with `join` to bind data to SVG `rect` elements, while masks alternate between inverted and non-inverted states across rows. The page fills the viewport and redraws randomly on each load, producing a dynamic, colorful mosaic that echoes the artist’s rule-based aesthetic.

Fork of Fork of Full Sol LeWitt Reproduction with D3

This visualization recreates a Sol LeWitt–style grid of horizontal and vertical lines, overlaid with two masks that reveal symbolic shapes in contrasting areas. The example uses D3 v6 to generate 100 rectangular strips in each direction, then applies SVG masks via `d3.select` and `append('mask')`. Each mask uses D3 symbol generators (`d3.symbol` and `d3.symbols`) to draw numbered geometric icons—circles, crosses, diamonds, and squares—in black or white, creating a layered optical effect. The code directly manipulates SVG elements and relies on the `range`, `join`, and `attr` APIs to build the repeating structure.

Fork of Full Fork of Fork of Sol LeWitt Reproduction with D3_final

Two alternating sets of thin rectangles and masked symbol shapes form an abstract, geometric composition reminiscent of Sol LeWitt's wall drawings. The code uses D3 v7 with `select`, `range`, and `symbol` to append SVG rectangles whose positions and dimensions alternate between horizontal and vertical lines. A mask, built via `append('mask')`, overlays diamond and square symbols from `d3.symbols`, with alternating black and white fills that reveal or hide the underlying grid. The result is a dynamic interplay of line, shape, and contrast driven by parity-based logic.

Fork of Sol Lewitt Reproduction with D3

This example generates an abstract grid pattern using Sol Lewitt-inspired geometry. It draws horizontal and vertical strips of rectangles, then applies two distinct masks with D3’s `symbol` shapes (including circles, crosses, and diamonds) to selectively reveal or hide portions of the grid. The masks are created with `d3.mask`, one inverted against the other, producing a layered interplay between the symbol silhouettes and the underlying striped composition. The visualization uses D3 v7 selections, `range`, and `join` to construct the SVG elements within a full-window viewport.

Sol LeWitt-Inspired Shapes

This piece is an abstract generative art piece inspired by Sol LeWitt’s geometric wall drawings, built with D3 v7 and rendered as SVG. It displays a grid of blocks, each containing randomly colored horizontal and vertical slats, which are partially obscured by two alternating masks shaped from D3’s built-in symbol generators. The code uses `d3.symbols`, `d3.range`, and `.join()` to create rectangles and symbol paths, while the masks toggle visibility via an inverted fill pattern for varied visual depth. The page automatically reloads every 2.8 seconds to generate a new composition.

Fork of Sol LeWitt Reproduction with D3

This example recreates a Sol LeWitt–style grid using two sets of horizontal and vertical rectangles, each clipped by a circular mask to produce a black-and-white geometric composition. The code uses D3’s `select`, `range`, and `join` to generate 100 stripes in each direction, while `d3.symbol` and `symbols[1]` draw a diamond-shaped mask path. Two SVG masks alternate inverted fills, revealing or hiding parts of the grid. The visualization runs in React, renders as SVG, and adapts to the full browser window size.
