Fork of Sol LeWitt

Fork of Sol LeWitt Reproduction

This generative art piece reproduces a Sol LeWitt wall drawing using pure JavaScript and the SVG API. It displays a grid of alternating horizontal and vertical stripes that intersect within central circular masks, creating a layered geometric pattern. The code constructs an SVG canvas with two circle masks—one revealing horizontal bars, the other vertical bars—overlaid to produce the final composition. No external libraries are used; all elements are created dynamically via `document.createElementNS` and styled with inline attributes.

Fork of Sol LeWitt Reproduction

The visualization reproduces a Sol LeWitt art piece by rendering a grid of horizontal and vertical bars that intersect around a central circular void. The SVG is built entirely with vanilla JavaScript and SVG DOM methods, using two masks to create the effect: a circle-mask that reveals only the horizontal bars within a 200-pixel radius, and a circle-mask-2 that inverts the circle to show vertical bars outside it. Each bar is a thin rectangle, with 100 horizontal strips and 100 vertical strips drawn across the full viewport. The result is a geometric composition of alternating line directions inside and outside the circular boundary.

This piece renders a grid of horizontal and vertical black bars that form a circular composition, visually echoing the geometric style of Sol LeWitt. The work uses a double-masking technique in SVG to create the pattern: a white circle on a black rectangle masks the horizontal bars, while a black circle on a white rectangle masks the vertical ones. The code generates the SVG directly via the DOM API, computing bar lengths and counts from the window dimensions. The result is an abstract, generative artwork that highlights the interplay of line, form, and negative space.

This is a generative art piece that recreates a Sol LeWitt wall drawing using SVG elements. It renders a full-screen grid of horizontal and vertical stripes, with a central circular area masked to show the horizontal lines while the surrounding area displays vertical lines. The code uses the SVG DOM API directly to create and manipulate `rect` and `circle` elements, along with `mask` definitions to control visibility. The pattern is generated programmatically across the entire canvas, with each stripe having a fixed width and height.

Fork of Sol LeWitt Reproduction

This is a generative art example that reproduces a Sol LeWitt piece as an SVG drawing. It shows a grid of horizontal and vertical bands intersecting within two circular masks at the center of the viewport. The rendering uses vanilla JavaScript with SVG’s `mask` and `circle` elements to alternate which bands are visible. The code creates 100 horizontal and 100 vertical rectangles, each 10 pixels thick, and uses two complementary masks to reveal either the horizontal or vertical set within a 200-pixel-radius circle, creating a crosshatched, layered effect.

This example recreates Sol LeWitt’s generative art using raw SVG elements created through the DOM API. The piece displays a grid of horizontal and vertical bars whose placement and thickness are computed from the viewport dimensions. A circular mask, defined as a separate SVG mask, applies a hole to the vertical bars, while a second mask with a white circle reveals the horizontal bars. The result is a dynamic, mask-based interplay of intersecting lines that echoes LeWitt’s systematic, rule-driven aesthetic. The code generates rectangles and circle masks entirely via JavaScript’s `document.createElementNS`, with no external libraries.

This example reproduces a Sol LeWitt art piece, displaying a grid of horizontal and vertical black bars that form a central circular aperture. The visualization uses two SVG masks—one with a white circle on a black background and another with a black circle on white—to selectively reveal the alternating stripes. The code creates 100 horizontal rectangles and 100 vertical rectangles, each drawing with a 10-pixelthickness, and applies the masks via the `mask` attribute. The piece dynamically resizes to the full browser window, demonstrating a purely procedural, generative rendering approach with no external data source.

A generative SVG reproduction of a Sol LeWitt wall drawing renders a grid of alternating horizontal and vertical black lines. Masks—the SVG `mask` element—isolate the line patterns within two separate circular regions, creating a layered intersection effect. The drawing uses a procedural loop to create 100 line elements in each orientation with a 20-pixel offset. The result is a minimalist, geometric composition where the line-based structure is defined by the mask APIs rather than explicit drawing commands.
