This bar chart displays the top 10 most populous countries in 2020, sorted by population, with a left-aligned y-axis listing country names and an x-axis measuring population in billions. It uses React with D3 v5, leveraging `scaleBand` for the categorical y-axis, `scaleLinear` for the quantitative x-axis, and SVG `<rect>` elements for bars. Data is loaded asynchronously from a CSV via `d3.csv`, then sliced and rendered with custom `AxisBottom`, `AxisLeft`, and `Marks` components, with native SVG `<title>` tooltips.

(axis w/ react & d3) Countries by population (top 10)

This example visualizes the top 10 most populous countries in 2020 as a bar chart, using a horizontal layout. It shows the population counts along the x-axis and country names along the y-axis, with gridlines and tick labels generated manually. The code loads data from a CSV file using `d3.csv`, processes it in a React component with hooks (`useState`, `useEffect`), and uses `scaleBand` for the y-axis, `scaleLinear` for the x-axis, and `max` from d3. React elements are used to render SVG bars, text labels, and lines, with ReactDOM mounting the component.

Bar Chart

This bar chart displays the top 10 most populous countries in 2020, with horizontal bars sorted by population. Built with React and D3 v5, it uses `scaleBand` for the categorical y-axis and `scaleLinear` for the numeric x-axis, rendering SVG rectangles via the `Marks` component. Tooltips show formatted population values using D3’s `format` with SI prefixes. Data comes from the United Nations World Population Prospects 2019, loaded asynchronously with `csv`.

Bar chart with D3

This bar chart displays the population of the top 10 countries for 2020, using horizontal bars sorted by country name. The chart is built with React and D3 v5, rendering SVG elements. The code defines custom `AxisBottom`, `AxisLeft`, and `Marks` components, using D3's `scaleBand` and `scaleLinear` for scales and `format` for tick labels. Data is loaded from a CSV URL using `d3.csv`, and population values are computed by multiplying the '2020' column by 1000.

Refactored Bar chart - Countries by population (top 10)

This bar chart displays the top 10 most populous countries in 2020, with each country's total population represented by the length of its corresponding bar. The visualization uses React components to render SVG elements, with d3.scaleBand and d3.scaleLinear handling the categorical and linear scales for the country names and population values. Data is loaded asynchronously from a CSV file using d3.csv, and the chart is composed of separate AxisBottom, AxisLeft, and Marks components that are refactored for clarity. The bars are drawn as SVG rect elements within a 960×500 viewport.

Top Countries By Population Bar Chart

This bar chart displays the top 10 most populous countries for 2020, using horizontal bars to compare population sizes. The chart is built with React and D3 v5, using `scaleBand` for the categorical y-axis and `scaleLinear` for the population x-axis. Data comes from the United Nations World Population Prospects 2019, loaded via D3's `csv` function. The SVG rendering includes custom axes and marks, with tooltips formatted using D3's `format` function to show values in billions.

Making a World Population Bar Chart

This bar chart displays the top 10 most populous countries for 2020, using horizontal bars ordered by population with a labeled x-axis. The visualization is built with React and D3 v5, using `scaleBand` for the categorical y-axis, `scaleLinear` for the numeric x-axis, and SVG `<rect>` elements for the bars. Population values are fetched from a CSV file via `d3.csv` and formatted with `d3.format`. Tooltips show exact values using the SVG `<title>` element.

Stylized Bar Chart

This bar chart displays the top 10 most populous countries in 2020, with country names on the vertical axis and population counts on the horizontal axis. Built with React and D3 v5, it uses `d3.scaleBand` for the categorical y-axis and `d3.scaleLinear` with a maximum domain for the quantitative x-axis. SVG rect elements render the bars, and D3’s `format` function converts tick labels into abbreviated units (e.g., "1.4B"). Data comes from the United Nations World Population Prospects 2019, loaded asynchronously via `d3.csv`.

Bar with axis

This example displays the top 10 most populous countries in 2020 as a horizontal bar chart, with country names on the y-axis and population values on the x-axis. Using React hooks to manage data loading, it fetches CSV data via D3’s `csv` utility and renders SVG bars with `rect` elements. D3’s `scaleBand` and `scaleLinear` position the bars, while custom tick marks and labels are generated from `xScale.ticks()` and the y-scale domain, all within a React component tree.
