Correlations Discovered Between Poverty and Obesity

A high poverty rate is correlated with a high obesity rate in the United States. Arkansas, Missouri, and West Virginia have the highest obesity rates in the 35% range while also having a high poverty rate of about 20%. Generally, a lower poverty rate is associated with a lower obesity rate, demonstrated by a small cluster formed by Colorado, Hawaii, and Massachusetts which have poverty rates closer to 10% and obesity rates closer to 20%.

The x and y-axes for this chart have been modified to adjust for a high starting range overall in the US for both poverty and obesity rates.
