This visualization displays U.S. police shootings by month and victim race using a bar chart, revealing that shooting totals remain consistently high over time with white victims comprising the largest share. It aggregates CSV data from a public dataset, transforming dates into monthly periods and grouping counts by race. The chart is built with the Vega-Lite API, which wraps Vega and Vega-Lite, and automatically renders and exports to SVG. Custom axis styling and tooltips enhance readability.

Realized my first sketch. While realizing this visualization, I find it out that "TimeUnit" in vegalite API is defined as "temporal" field. That took me a lot of time to got understood.

By this visualization, we can tell that police shootings keep at a level and never go down. Besides, white victims accounted for the largest number of the shootings all time.

The data shown here comes from the US Police Shootings.
