Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates the general update pattern for SVG elements in D3 v5, showing how to handle special cases like creating, updating, and removing data points in a static visualization. A bowl of fruit changes over time as apples are eaten or replaced with lemons, with each fruit rendered as a circle and text label. The code uses D3's `selectAll` and `merge` methods to reconcile entering, updating, and exiting elements, while `scaleOrdinal` maps fruit types to colors and radii. The SVG view updates at timed intervals to reflect the changing array of fruit objects.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates the general update pattern for adding, removing, and modifying SVG elements in response to data changes. A bowl of fruit is rendered with apples and lemons, and a single `render` function updates the visualization over time as the underlying array is mutated. Using d3 v5's `select`, `selectAll`, `merge`, and `exit` methods, the code removes an apple, replaces one with a lemon, and filters the array to delete an item. The `scaleOrdinal` function sets distinct colors and radii for each fruit type.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates the general update pattern for SVG elements in D3 v5, showing how a bowl of fruit changes as apples are eaten or replaced by lemons. Three distinct update scenarios occur sequentially: removing the last apple, changing an apple’s type to lemon, and filtering out an apple from the middle. The `fruitBowl` function uses D3’s `selectAll` and `.merge` with ordinal scales for color and radius to handle entering, updating, and exiting groups. The underlying code uses `d3.select` and `d3.range` to manage the data array, while SVG `rect` and `circle` elements are re-rendered at each timeout-driven step.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates the general update pattern in D3 v5, showing how to handle adding, removing, and modifying data elements in a visualization. A bowl of fruit is rendered as circles with labels, using `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mappings. The code uses `selection.selectAll`, `enter()`, `merge()`, and `exit()` to update the SVG scene over time, with timeout-driven changes removing an apple, replacing one with a lemon, and filtering the array. The rendering uses SVG primitives like `circle` and `text`.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates the general update pattern for dynamic data visualization, showing how SVG circles representing a bowl of fruit change over time as items are removed or modified. The visualization begins with five apples, then sequentially removes an apple, changes another apple into a lemon, and deletes a different apple through timed JavaScript setTimeout calls. The code uses d3.scaleOrdinal for color and radius mappings, d3.select for SVG element selection, and the fruitBowl function implements the enter, merge, and exit lifecycle methods. Each circle's position, size, and fill color update reactively as the underlying fruits array changes.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This fork of the Bowl of Fruit example demonstrates the general update pattern for handling special cases in D3 v5 with SVG rendering. It shows a static bowl containing apples and a lemon, with fruits being removed and modified over timed intervals. The code uses `d3.select`, `d3.range`, `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mapping, and the `.merge()` API to manage enter, update, and exit states for groups representing each fruit. The data is a JavaScript array of fruit objects that is mutated to trigger re-renders.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates the general update pattern in D3 with special cases for data joins, showing apples and lemons in a bowl. The visualization cycles through scenarios: removing an item, modifying an existing item’s type, and filtering the array. The code uses d3-selection’s `enter`, `merge`, and `exit` methods to handle updates, with `scaleOrdinal` mapping fruit types to colors and radii. Rendered as SVG, the bowl is a styled rectangle, and fruits are circles with labels, updated via `setTimeout` calls in d3.v5.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates the General Update Pattern in D3 with special cases for data changes. Using d3 v5, it renders a bowl of apples and lemons as SVG circles and text labels, with a custom fruitBowl function handling enter, update, and exit selections. The code uses d3.scaleOrdinal for color and radius mapping, and d3.select and d3.range to manage state. Over timed updates, fruits are removed, one apple is replaced by a lemon, and another apple is filtered out, showing how D3 transitions handle these scenarios.
