This map shows a simplified version of the boundaries of Royal Park in Parkville, Melbourne. In its centre is the Melbourne Zoo, also known as the Royal Melbourne Zoological Gardens.
In 2017, part of a Butterfly Biodiversity Survey was conducted in Royal Park. During January-March, researchers visited specific plants in various regions of the park and noted whether they could see any butterflies at that time. On this map, the markers indicate locations where they looked for butterflies and the lines between the markers indicate the routes they took on the same day from one location to another. No survey data was collected within the Melbourne Zoo, which has its own enclosed Butterfly House.
