Two layered sets of SVG rectangles create a woven grid pattern that reveals a central circular window. The first set of horizontal stripes uses an SVG `<mask>` with a white circle to show only the circle’s interior, while the second set of vertical stripes uses an inverted mask to show the area outside the circle. All elements are generated via the DOM API (`document.createElementNS`) without any external libraries. The result is a static, full-window composition of intersecting lines whose contrast defines the circular focal point.

svg circle

This example renders 100 horizontal rectangles on an SVG canvas, with a circular mask applied so only the area inside a 200-pixel-radius circle centered on the screen is visible. The rectangles are spaced every 20 pixels vertically, each 10 pixels tall and spanning the full window width. The code creates the SVG elements using the native `document.createElementNS` API, building a mask containing a white circle and attaching it to each rectangle via the `mask` attribute. The visualization demonstrates basic SVG masking and procedural element creation in a browser environment.

svg mask

This example demonstrates the visual effect of SVG masks by layering horizontal and vertical stripes over a full-viewport canvas. It creates two circular masks, one with a white circle on a black background and the other with a black circle on a white background, then applies them to alternating sets of 50 thin rectangles. The code builds the entire scene programmatically using the Document Object Model (DOM) methods such as `createElementNS` and `setAttribute`, without any external libraries, and renders everything directly in SVG.

circle mask

A full-screen SVG displays 100 horizontal stripes alternating in height across the viewport, with a circular mask revealing only the central region. The mask is defined as an SVG `<mask>` containing a white rectangle and a black circle, applied to each stripe via the `mask` attribute. The visualization uses raw DOM manipulation with `document.createElementNS` and `setAttribute` to construct the SVG elements dynamically in JavaScript, without any external libraries.

svg fund

A grid of 100 thin horizontal rectangles spans the full width of the viewport, but a circular mask reveals only the central portion of this striped pattern. The visualization demonstrates how SVG masks work by layering a white circle on a black background to selectively hide or show the underlying marks. Built with D3’s `select`, `range`, and `join` methods, the code appends rectangles with a shared `mask` attribute, then constructs the mask using SVG `mask` and `circle` elements. The data is a simple sequential range, and the circle is centered at half the window’s dimensions.

LeWitt Circle

This example creates a circular pattern of alternating horizontal and vertical black and white stripes by layering two sets of SVG rectangles. Using D3.js `select`, `append`, and `join` methods with a `range` of 100, the rectangles are masked to reveal the circle. The first mask `circle-mask` applies a black background with a white circle, while `circle-mask-2` inverts this, producing the final geometric design. The SVG viewport spans the full browser window.

Sol Lewitt Circle

Full-screen SVG masks create a circular window that reveals intersecting vertical and horizontal striped rectangles, based on Sol Lewitt’s wall drawings. The code constructs two masks—one with a white circle on black and another with a black circle on white—then applies them to 100 vertical and 100 horizontal rectangles using `createElementNS` and `setAttribute`. This renders a geometric pattern where the circle area shows colored bands while the surrounding background remains empty.

mask experiments

This example demonstrates the interplay of two complementary SVG masks. It first shows a set of horizontal stripes visible only within a circular window, then displays vertical stripes that are hidden inside the circle while remaining visible outside it. The piece creates a stark geometric contrast between the two masked regions. The visualization is generated entirely with the SVG `mask` element and basic `rect` and `circle` primitives, using white and black fills to define luminosity. The code dynamically constructs one hundred stripes for each orientation, with the masks applied via URL references to `#circle-mask` and `#circle-mask-2`.

patterns masked

A grid of horizontal and vertical stripes is partially revealed through a circular mask, creating a layered pattern where the lines cross and overlap within the masked region. The visualization uses raw SVG APIs, including `document.createElementNS` to construct rectangles and a mask with a circle, alongside `setAttribute` to position elements. The stripes form a woven texture, and the mask highlights a central focal area while leaving the surrounding space empty.
