Forked from Bowl of Fruit - General update pattern

Five fruit bowls appear as circles and labels, re-rendering on a timer as apples are removed or replaced with lemons. Each fruit is drawn as an SVG group containing a circle and text, with the circles colored and sized by a `d3.scaleOrdinal` based on fruit type. The code uses D3 v5 data joins to enter, update, and exit these nested elements within an SVG.

Bowl of fruit General Nested Elements

A bowl of five apples renders as circles inside a rounded rectangle, with each fruit labeled by type. Over time, the animation removes apples, changes one apple into a lemon, and filters out another, demonstrating how nested SVG elements (groups, circles, text) update through D3's selection and merge APIs. The visualization uses D3 v5’s `scaleOrdinal` for color and size scales, and animates radius transitions with `.transition().duration(1000)`. The code relies on general element nesting with `selectAll` and enter/exit patterns, driven by a timer that mutates the fruit data array.

Bowl of Fruit - Nested Elements

Five apples rest in an oval bowl drawn as an SVG rectangle. A nested-element pattern uses one group per fruit, with each group containing a colored circle and a text label. The data join enters, updates, and removes elements through the general update pattern. Timed actions remove fruits and change one apple to a lemon, with d3.scaleOrdinal mapping fruit type to color and radius.

Bowl of Fruit - Nested

Five apples render as nested SVG circles in a row, their size and color mapped by `d3.scaleOrdinal` to fruit type. The code uses the `fruitBowl` module to draw circles and labels with `.enter()`, `.merge()`, and `.exit()` transitions. Timed actions mutate the `fruits` array, removing one apple, replacing another with a lemon, and filtering out a third, demonstrating incremental updates to the DOM.

Bowl of fruit - Nested Elements

A dynamic fruit bowl demonstrates data joins and nested elements with D3 v5. Five circles represent apples, rendered as red groups with uppercase text labels. As the simulation runs, fruits disappear, and one apple transforms into a yellow lemon, changing both color and radius. The code uses `d3.scaleOrdinal` for color and radius scales, `selection.data` with object constancy, and group elements containing circle and text children, with enter, update, and exit selections managing transitions.

Bowl of Fruit - Nested Elements_Singular Elements

A bowl of fruit demonstrates nested SVG elements with singular data joins. Five apples render as red circles inside a rounded rectangle bowl, each group containing a circle and a text label. Over time, the dataset shrinks, one apple changes into a yellow lemon, and another apple is removed. Using `d3.scaleOrdinal` for color and radius, the code performs enter, update, and exit selections via `selection.enter()`, `merge()`, and `exit().remove()` to transition the fruit groups dynamically. The example shows how to manage hierarchical SVG structures with D3 v5.

Bowl of Fruit: Nested Elements

Five fruit circles appear in a row, then an animation sequence removes, re-types, and removes fruits to show nested data joins. Using D3 v5, the code binds an array of fruit objects to SVG `<g>` groups, appending circles and text labels inside each. The `fruitBowl` function separates enter and update selections, merging them before applying `transition().duration(1000)` to animate circle radii via a color and radius scale. The `index.js` script schedules state changes with `setTimeout` and re-renders, while `scaleOrdinal` maps fruit types to colors and sizes.

Nested Elements

This example demonstrates nested SVG elements by rendering a bowl of fruit as circles within groups. It shows how to manage enter, update, and exit selections with D3 v5, using `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mapping. The visualization updates over time via `setTimeout`, removing fruits, changing an apple to a lemon, and filtering the data array. Rectangles anchor the bowl, while groups position each circle and its corresponding text label.

Nested Elements

A fruit bowl rendered in SVG shows a row of apples and a lemon, with each fruit as a circle inside a rounded rectangle. D3’s `scaleOrdinal` maps fruit types to circle radii and fill colors, while `merge` and `transition().duration(1000)` animate changes to the fruit data. Over three seconds, the visualization removes an apple, swaps an apple for a lemon, and deletes another apple, demonstrating how D3’s selection API handles nested elements and dynamic updates.
