Two alternating sets of horizontal and vertical black-and-white stripes create a full-screen moiré grid. Two SVG masks, generated with D3’s `symbol` and `symbols` APIs, punch contrasting shapes into each stripe layer using inverted fills. The stripes are drawn as nested rectangles via `selectAll` and `join`, with masks applied via `attr('mask', 'url(#mask-1)')`. The result is a generative geometric composition referencing Sol LeWitt’s wall drawings.

Full Sol LeWitt Reproduction with Background

A full-screen grid of alternating horizontal and vertical stripes is overlaid with masks that punch out repeating geometric symbols, creating a dynamic, woven composition. The example uses D3.js methods including `select`, `range`, and `symbol` to generate and position SVG elements. Two masks apply contrasting patterns: one uses white and black rectangular bands with D3 symbols to reveal the horizontal stripes, while the other applies the inverse logic to the vertical stripes. The result is a layered, shifting optical effect driven entirely by SVG masking and D3’s data-join.

Full Sol LeWitt Reproduction with D3 - Part III

A Sol LeWitt–style geometric composition uses layered horizontal and vertical stripes, with two SVG masks—one inverted—cutting circular symbol shapes through the grid. The code generates 100 stripes in each direction using D3’s `range` and `selectAll().join()`, then defines masks with `d3.symbol` and `symbols` to create the cutouts. Rendering is done entirely in SVG, with the page set to full-viewport dimensions. The masks alternate between black and white fills to reverse which areas remain visible, producing a subtle interplay between the striped background and the symbol-shaped voids.

Full LS Sol Lewitt Reproduction

This visualization reproduces a Sol LeWitt-inspired drawing through a geometric grid of narrow black and white rectangular stripes, with circular masks creating a layered pattern. Built using D3 v7, the code generates two sets of 100 horizontal and vertical lines using `selectAll` and `range`, then applies SVG masks (`mask-1`, `mask-2`) that combine a large circle and a symbol path generated via `symbol(symbols[0], 125000)()` to selectively reveal or hide the stripes across the viewport. The result is an interactive, fullscreen generative art piece that fills the browser window with a rhythmic, screen-printed aesthetic.

Full Sol Lewitt with D3

This example generates a full-screen SVG pattern of alternating horizontal and vertical stripes, with Sol Lewitt-inspired geometric symbols appearing through mask cutouts. Two separate mask layers—each containing a row of D3 symbol shapes—reveal or hide the stripe groups to create layered, interlocking compositions. The visualization uses D3 v6 APIs including `select`, `range`, `symbol`, and `symbols`, with masks defined via `append('mask')` and filled using `rect` and `path` elements. Data is procedurally generated with `range(n)` rather than loaded from an external source.

Full Sol Lewitt Reproduction with d3

This example reproduces a Sol LeWitt wall drawing as a full-screen SVG. It uses D3's `select`, `range`, and `join` APIs to generate a grid of alternating horizontal and vertical stripes. Two masks, created with `symbol` and `symbols` from D3, overlay the grid: one applies a white-on-black path pattern, the other inverts it, producing a layered geometric composition. The drawing adapts to the browser window's dimensions, with the mask symbols centered and scaled to a fixed size.

Full Sol LeWitt Reproduction D3 v2

A full-screen D3 visualization reproduces Sol LeWitt’s wall drawing using 48 horizontal and 48 vertical striped rectangles. Two SVG masks, created with `d3.symbol` and the `symbols[0]` diamond path, define circular cutouts that invert the stripe pattern. The code uses D3 v7’s `select`, `range`, and `join` to generate elements, with the second mask rendered in opposite fill colors to create a contrasting central motif. Rendering is purely SVG-based without animation.

Full Sol LeWitt Reproduction with D3

This example reproduces a Sol LeWitt wall drawing using D3.js, rendering 100 horizontal and 100 vertical stripes across the full browser window. It uses SVG masks to create alternating circular cutouts: the first mask (mask-1) reveals the grid in white with a black circle, while the second (mask-2) inverts the effect. The code employs D3’s `select`, `range`, `symbol`, and `symbols` APIs to generate the geometric composition. The final output is a generative pattern where the intersection of stripes and circular voids produces the artwork’s characteristic visual rhythm.

Full Sol Lewitt with D3

This example generates two sets of alternating horizontal and vertical stripes from `d3.range` and renders them as SVG `rect` elements. Each set is clipped by a circular `mask` whose pattern is created from the `d3.symbols` and `d3.symbol` functions, producing a repeated geometric motif. The masks use contrasting fills—black for the first circle and white for the second—so the overlapping stripes appear to weave through the two shapes. The visualization runs entirely in the browser with D3 7.4.4, drawing to an SVG canvas sized by the window height.
