A circle transitions in and out of a bowl of fruit, demonstrating the D3 general update pattern. The visualization shows five apples that shrink, change color, or disappear based on array mutations. Using D3 v6, the code applies ordinal scales for color and radius, while `selection.enter`, `merge`, and `exit` handle data joins with SVG circles and animated transitions over one second.

Bowl of Fruit - General update pattern

Five circles representing apples transition in and out of an SVG bowl over timed intervals, demonstrating D3's general update pattern. The visualization shows how data joins handle entering, updating, and exiting elements: apples disappear, one apple is replaced by a lemon, and another is removed. The code uses `d3.scaleOrdinal` for color and radius scales, `selection.enter()`, `selection.merge()`, `selection.exit()`, and `transition().duration()` to animate circle attributes like `r` and `cx`.

Bowl of Fruit-General Update Pattern

Five fruit circles render as apples and shift position, change type, or disappear over time. The example demonstrates D3’s general update pattern with data joins, using `selection.enter`, `merge`, and `exit` to handle entering, updating, and exiting elements. Each state transition animates circle radius and position via `transition().duration(1000)`, while `scaleOrdinal` maps fruit type to color and size. The visualization uses an SVG rendering approach with D3 v5 and randomly generated fruit IDs as the data source.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

A bowl of fruit demonstrates the general update pattern, showing five apples that enter, change, and exit over time. The visualization uses D3 v6's `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mappings, with `transition` animations that grow entering circles from zero radius, fade exiting ones back to zero, and smoothly update attributes for persistent items. The code applies the pattern through `selectAll`, `enter`, `merge`, and `exit` methods, driven by `setTimeout` calls that pop, replace, and filter the fruit array.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

A bowl of fruit demonstrates the D3 general update pattern as circles and labels enter, update, and exit with animated transitions. The example uses D3 v5's `selection.data`, `selection.enter`, `selection.merge`, and `selection.exit` to manage SVG groups. `d3.scaleOrdinal` maps fruit types to colors and radii, while chained `transition.duration` calls animate position, size, and fill over one second. The code mutates a fruits array at timed intervals—removing items, changing a type, and filtering—to show how the visualization responds. Rendering is SVG-based.

Bowl Of Fruit - General Update Pattern

Five circles representing apples transition into and out of a bowl-shaped scatterplot using D3's general update pattern. The visualization demonstrates enter, update, and exit selections with a color scale for fruit types and a radius scale for size. D3 v5's `data()` join, `merge()`, and chained `transition().duration()` animations handle circle appearance, fruit replacement from apple to lemon, and removals at timed intervals.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

This visualization demonstrates the general update pattern in D3, showing a bowl of fruit that changes over time as items are added, removed, and modified. Initially five apples appear, then one is eaten, an apple is replaced by a lemon, and another apple is removed. The example uses D3's `select`, `scaleOrdinal`, and transition system with `transition().duration()` to animate circle radii and colors, rendering in SVG. The code in `fruitBowl.js` shows enter, merge, and exit transitions, with each fruit assigned an `id` for key-based data joining.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

Five circles represent apples in an SVG bowl, and a sequence of animated updates demonstrates D3's general update pattern. The visualization starts with five apples, then removes one, changes another into a lemon, and finally filters out a third fruit, using enter, merge, and exit selections. D3 v6 scales map fruit types to colors and radii, while transitions animate radius and position changes over one second. The `fruitBowl` module handles the data join with `selection.data`, `enter.append`, and `exit.remove` APIs.

Bowl of fruit general update pattern

A D3.js animation demonstrates the general update pattern by rendering a bowl of fruit as colored circles that appear, change, and disappear over time. The code uses `d3.scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mappings, while `selection.data`, `enter`, `merge`, and `exit` manage the lifecycle of SVG elements. Transitions animate circle radius changes when apples are replaced by lemons or removed. The visualization shows fundamental DOM manipulation with a simple dataset and timed intervals.
