Color and Size Legend

Color and Size Legends

This example demonstrates two reusable legend components rendered with D3 v5: a color legend for ordinal scales and a size legend for square-root scales. The color legend maps fruit categories to distinct colors, while the size legend visualizes numeric values using scaled circle radii. Both components use D3 selections and data joins to update legends dynamically. The code relies on `scaleOrdinal`, `scaleSqrt`, `scale.ticks`, and custom group elements with SVG circles and text labels, styled via CSS classes.

Color and Size Legends

This example demonstrates two reusable legend components for D3 visualizations: a color legend using an ordinal scale to map named categories to distinct colors, and a size legend using a square-root scale to encode numeric values through circle radius. The legends render as SVG groups with circles and labels, using d3.scaleOrdinal and d3.scaleSqrt. Both components employ the enter/merge/exit pattern to update efficiently, with a video link provided in the README.

Color and Size Legends

This example demonstrates two custom legend components built with D3 v5: a color legend using an ordinal scale for categorical data (apple, lemon, lime, orange) and a size legend using a square-root scale for continuous numeric values. The color legend renders colored circles with text labels, while the size legend generates circles whose radii correspond to tick values, filtering out zero. Both legends are implemented as reusable functions that append SVG groups, using `scaleOrdinal` and `scaleSqrt` to map data domains to visual properties, with spacing and text offsets controlled by configuration props.

Color and Size Legends

This example demonstrates two reusable legend components rendered side by side in an SVG: a color legend using an ordinal scale mapping fruit names to distinct colors, and a size legend built from a square-root scale with circular marks sized proportionally to tick values. Both legends use D3 v5’s selection joins to update enter and exit states. The color legend calls `scaleOrdinal`. The size legend uses `scaleSqrt.ticks()` for tick generation.

Color and Size Legends

This example demonstrates two custom legend components rendered as SVG: a color legend using a d3 ordinal scale mapping fruit names to colors, and a size legend using a d3 square-root scale mapping numeric values to circle radii. The color legend places equally sized circles with labels, while the size legend shows varying circle sizes with tick values generated by `sizeScale.ticks()`. Both rely on D3’s data join pattern (`selectAll().data().enter()`) with explicit `spacing` and `textOffset` props for layout, and are called via the `selection.call()` method.

Color and Size Legends

This example demonstrates two reusable legend components rendered as SVG: a color legend using an ordinal scale mapping fruit categories to distinct colors, and a size legend using a square-root scale to encode numeric values through circle area. The color legend displays evenly spaced colored circles with labels, while the size legend computes ticks via `sizeScale.ticks()`, filters out zero, and reverses their order. Both components are built with D3 v5, using `selection.merge()`, `enter()`, and `exit()` patterns to handle dynamic updates, and accept configuration props such as spacing, text offset, and circle styling.

Color and Size Legends

This example demonstrates two reusable legend components built with D3 v5: a color legend using `scaleOrdinal` for categorical data and a size legend using `scaleSqrt` for quantitative data. The color legend renders colored circles with domain labels, while the size legend displays circles scaled proportionally to tick values with corresponding text offsets. Both legends are implemented as modular functions that append SVG groups and circles, using D3’s selection and merge pattern to handle updates efficiently.

Color and Size Legends

This example demonstrates two reusable legend components rendered as SVG: a color legend for ordinal data and a size legend for quantitative data. The color legend maps categorical values like "apple" and "lemon" to distinct colors, while the size legend uses d3.scaleSqrt to encode numeric ticks as proportional circle radii. Both legends are built with D3 v5 data joins, using selection.enter and merge to update groups, circles, and text. The code exports modular functions from colorLegend.js and sizeLegend.js, with styling applied via CSS classes like .tick.
