This visualization shows the top 10 exporting countries in 2018, with bars broken down by export type to compare manufacturers versus total exports. The chart uses bar marks encoded with country names on the x-axis, export values on the y-axis, and color to distinguish series. The code loads CSV data via d3.csv, filters and aggregates totals, selects the top countries using d3.descending, and renders the chart with Vega-Lite and Vega, incorporating custom axis styling and tooltips.

Top Exporting Countries in 2018

This visualization displays the top 10 exporting countries in 2018, with horizontal bars showing total export values and color-coded sections distinguishing manufactures exports from other export types. The chart uses Vega-Lite’s markBar and encoding channels for position, color, and tooltip, configured via the vega-lite-api wrapper. Data is loaded from a CSV using d3.csv, filtered to exclude missing values and one series, then aggregated and sorted to select the top countries. The final view is rendered with Vega’s SVG renderer and includes interactive tooltips.

Top Exporting Countries in 2018

This visualization shows the top 10 exporting countries in 2018, with each country’s total export value broken down by series type. The bar chart uses stacked bars to compare total exports against manufactures exports, color-encoded by series name, with tooltips displaying the precise values. The code loads CSV data from World Bank indicators via `d3.csv`, filters and aggregates values in JavaScript, then renders the chart using Vega-Lite’s API and `vl.markBar`. The visualization uses d3 v5 for data handling and Vega-Lite’s `vega-lite-api` for specification.

Making a Bar Chart

This bar chart displays the top 10 countries by total merchandise exports in 2017, based on World Trade Organization data. The visualization uses d3.csv to load the data, then applies d3.scaleLinear and d3.scaleBand to map export values and country names, respectively. Bars are rendered as SVG rectangles, with axes generated by d3.axisLeft and d3.axisBottom. The chart omits the x-axis domain starting point, truncating the scale to emphasize differences among leading exporters.
