A minimal demonstration of SVG primitives builds a stylized landscape with an animated sky gradient and a drifting sun. Two overlapping paths create layered hills in the foreground, while a radial gradient for the sky and linear gradients for the land transition between aliceblue, steelblue, and midnightblue. The D3 v7 `select` function appends a static text label, and inline SVG `<animate>` elements drive the color and position changes over a 10-second loop, showing how raw SVG and D3 can be combined for simple animated visuals.

A static set of overlapping blue, white, red, and yellow circles is arranged on an SVG canvas, with each circle drawn four times at progressively smaller radii to create a layered, target-like appearance. The example demonstrates basic D3 data joins and transitions, using `d3.select`, `d3.range`, and array data to bind circle elements. A brief transition animates the entire SVG group by shifting it via `transition.attr('transform')`, moving the composition diagonally twice. All rendering is done with inline SVG attributes, with no external data source.

A blank SVG canvas forms the stage for a minimal drawing example. The code selects the `#svg` element and uses D3's data join to enter a range of ten values, appending a single line for each. The lines all start at the x-coordinate zero and have a black stroke, but no other attributes are set, so they appear as overlapping vertical segments. This demonstrates the foundational D3 pattern of binding data to SVG elements, though no visual layout or differentiation is applied yet.

Fork of SVG Fundamentals Dynamic landscape

A dynamic SVG landscape depicts a stylized sun and layered mountains that transition through a day-night cycle. The code uses SVG gradients (`radialGradient`, `linearGradient`), animated `stop-color` values, and an animated `circle` element's `cy` attribute via the `<animate>` tag. The scene comprises three overlapping path-based terrain layers, with colors shifting between aliceblue, steelblue, and indigo over a 15-second loop. The rendering approach is pure SVG with declarative SMIL animations for both the sun’s movement and the gradient color changes.

This example demonstrates a simple sunrise and sunset animation using a yellow circle that moves vertically within an SVG canvas. The circle alternates between two positions—descending to the bottom and rising to the top—via a CSS `@keyframes` rule named `sunrise-sunset`, applied with an infinite alternate timing function. The markup also includes a static SVG circle and a brief demonstration of D3 version 7's `select` function to insert text into the body. The animation runs in a 500x500 viewport, showing basic CSS-driven motion without JavaScript interaction or external data.

This example demonstrates how to build a simple D3.js (version 6) application, starting with a basic SVG scene that includes a colored leaf-like shape and a dark background. The code defines the SVG container with explicit width and height attributes and uses inline path data to render the geometric forms. It serves as an introductory template, highlighting the fundamental structure for creating static vector graphics with D3, and is accompanied by a README and a video tutorial to guide new users.

Fork of SVG Fundamentals Dynamic landscape

A dynamic SVG landscape cycles through a day-night transition, animating a sun descending and rising over layered mountain silhouettes. The scene uses radial and linear gradients whose colors oscillate between aliceblue and indigo or steelblue, driven by SMIL `<animate>` elements on the gradient stops and the sun’s vertical position. The three mountain paths are drawn with static `d` attributes and filled with the animated gradients, producing a minimalist sunrise-to-sunset effect entirely through declarative SVG animations.

This example demonstrates a minimal D3.js version 7 setup by rendering a single, full-width SVG element. It colors the entire 960-by-500-pixel canvas blue by using `d3.select` to target the SVG element and the `svg.style` method to apply the background color. The code imports only the `select` function from the D3 module, and the visualization is a static, empty scene with no data or interactive elements. The HTML page loads D3 from a CDN and includes a separate JavaScript bundle, highlighting the basic structure of a D3 project.

Fork of D3 Starter

This fork of D3 Starter demonstrates a minimal D3 version 7 setup, rendering a static grid of colored rectangles in an SVG canvas. The visualization shows a simple categorical heatmap-like pattern with varied blue, green, and yellow hues. The code imports the `select` function from D3 and uses it to update the page body text, while the SVG layout is hand-coded in HTML. No data loading or interactive behavior is included, focusing solely on the basic wiring of a D3 project.
