A zoomable treemap displays a hierarchical dataset as nested rectangles, with area encoding each node’s value. Users click a cell to zoom in and explore its children, or click the top to zoom back out. Built with d3.treemap, a custom tiling function, and d3.scaleLinear for positioning. Zoom transitions animate both SVG groups and their coordinates. Data comes from the flare-2.json file, rendered as animated SVG with click-driven navigation.

Zoomable treemap template

This zoomable treemap displays hierarchical data through nested rectangles sized by value, allowing drill-down navigation to explore subregions. It visualizes Indian education statistics from a JSON file, grouping entries by region and subregion. The example uses d3.v3 with the d3.layout.treemap API and SVG rendering, implementing custom recursive layout and accumulate functions. Click transitions animate zooming between hierarchy levels, with an orange breadcrumb bar showing the current path and enabling navigation back to parent nodes.

Zoomable treemap template

Built with D3.js v3 and jQuery, this interactive visualization presents education resource data as a zoomable treemap. The code uses `d3.layout.treemap` to hierarchically arrange rectangles by value, colored via `d3.scale.category20c`, with click-to-transition zooming between parent and child nodes. Data is loaded from a JSON array of entries containing subject, region, subregion, and count values, which the treemap aggregates and lays out recursively. The SVG renders responsive rectangles and a grandparent breadcrumb header, demonstrating a reusable template for hierarchical exploration.

Treemap Example

This treemap visualizes the hierarchical flare dataset, showing relative leaf-node values as nested rectangles colored by their top-level parent category. Built with D3 v6 and rendered as SVG, the example implements a custom treemap layout algorithm via recursive space partitioning that alternates between horizontal and vertical splits. The code uses d3.scaleLinear for proportional sizing, d3.scaleOrdinal with d3.schemeCategory10 for colors, and calculates text visibility based on rectangle dimensions. Data is loaded from a JSON file and displayed with interactive hover effects absent, focusing purely on static hierarchical encoding.

Treemap Visualization

This interactive treemap visualizes the hierarchical structure of the Flare dataset, with rectangles sized by either file size or descendant count. Users toggle between weighting metrics and can click rectangles to zoom into branches, with right-click or the zoom-out button restoring the full view. The visualization uses D3.js v6 to render SVG rectangles, transitioning their positions and dimensions over one-second animations via `transition.attr`, while a linear color scale maps tree depth to a red gradient. Zooming adjusts the SVG viewBox attribute.

Treemap from bl.ocks.org

A treemap visualization displays the hierarchical structure of the flare.json dataset, with nested rectangles sized by either node size or leaf count. The interactive chart allows toggling between these two aggregation modes via radio buttons, triggering a smooth animated transition. Built with D3 v4, the visualization uses `d3.treemap`, `d3.hierarchy`, and `d3.scaleOrdinal` for coloring, rendering SVG cells with clipped text labels and tooltips.

Zoomable Treemap

This zoomable treemap visualizes UK Home Office flight data from 2011, showing hierarchical relationships between destinations, suppliers, and ticket classes. Built with D3 v2 and rendered as an SVG with smooth zoom animations, the treemap uses nested rectangles sized by paid fare amounts, with color encoding categories. Users can click to zoom between hierarchy levels. The data is loaded from a CSV and transformed using d3.nest, while the custom layout function optimizes the treemap for the current zoom state, enabling fluid transitions as users navigate the data.

Treemap

A treemap recursively subdivides a rectangle into smaller rectangles, with each node's area proportional to its value, encoding the hierarchical structure and size of the Flare visualization toolkit's packages through both position and color. The visualization includes an interactive radio-button control that toggles between summing leaf sizes and counting leaves, triggering a 750-millisecond transition that animates rectangle boundaries using D3 v4's `d3.treemap` with the `d3.treemapResquarify` tiling algorithm. Rendered as SVG, the code uses `d3.hierarchy`, `d3.scaleOrdinal` with the `schemeCategory20` color palette, and `d3.json` to load the packaged flare.json dataset.

Treemap from bl.ocks.org

This treemap visualizes hierarchical data, such as the flare.json dataset, using nested rectangles to represent size values, with an option to re-sort by count. It shows an interactive animation that smoothly transitions between these two aggregation modes. Built with D3.js v4, the code uses `d3.treemap`, `d3.treemapResquarify`, and `d3.hierarchy` to process data, while SVG rendering and `d3.transition()` handle the animated updates. The example also includes a color scale from `d3.schemeCategory20` for visual distinction.
