A bowl of fruit visualizes the general update pattern with special cases. It shows apples and lemons as colored circles in a fixed bowl, with each fruit's type label beneath it. The code uses D3 v5's `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius scales, then applies the update pattern via `selection.selectAll` and `.merge` to handle entering, updating, and exiting elements. SVG rendering positions fruits horizontally, with a static rect forming the bowl.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

A bowl of fruit demonstrates D3’s general update pattern with array modifications. Apples and lemons appear as colored circles with labels, shifting positions as fruits are removed, replaced, or eaten over timed intervals. The code uses D3 v5 selections, `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius, and `merge` to handle enter and update sets, while `exit().remove()` cleans up departing elements. SVG rendering occurs via a fixed bowl rectangle and groups translated by index.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

A bowl of fruit demonstrates special cases of D3's general update pattern, where a static bowl rect and dynamic fruit groups coexist. Apples and lemons are drawn as circles with ordinal color and radius scales, while text labels appear beside each fruit. The code uses `selection.enter` and `selection.exit` to handle fruit additions and removals, with circles and text merged separately per fruit group. The SVG output updates over time as the dataset changes through three timed events: removing an apple, replacing one with a lemon, and filtering out another.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

A bowl of fruit demonstrates D3's general update pattern with special cases, showing apples and lemons as colored circles that appear, disappear, and change type over time. Using `d3.scaleOrdinal` for color and radius, the code binds fruit data to SVG `g` elements, merging entering and updating selections with `.merge()` and removing exits with `.exit().remove()`. Timed `setTimeout` calls trigger updates: removing the last apple, replacing one apple with a lemon, and filtering out a middle fruit. The example renders in an SVG container with a rounded rectangle bowl drawn via `rect` attributes.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

A bowl of fruit demonstrates the general update pattern with special cases, showing apples and a lemon transitioning as the dataset changes over time. Using D3 v5 with SVG, the code binds fruit data to selection, merging enter and update sets to handle position, color, and radius via ordinal scales. It re-renders on timers to remove, modify, and filter elements without explicit transitions, relying on the update pattern’s join logic.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

A bowl of fruit demonstrates the general update pattern special cases as apples are eaten and replaced with lemons over time. The SVG visualization uses d3 data joins to handle entering, updating, and exiting elements, with d3.scaleOrdinal mapping fruit types to colors and radii. The code imports scaleOrdinal and select from d3 v5, binding fruit data to groups that contain circles and text labels, while timeout-driven mutations trigger re-renders. The bowl is rendered as a rounded rectangle, and clicking a fruit logs to the console.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates D3's general update pattern with special cases for entering, updating, and exiting elements. A bowl of fruit (apples and lemons) is rendered as SVG circles and text labels, with transitions over time as fruits are removed or replaced. The code uses `d3.scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mapping, `selection.merge`, and `selection.exit().remove()` to handle data joins. Fruits are imported from a module and rendered in a fixed bowl rectangle.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates a fruit bowl visualization that cycles through special cases of D3’s general update pattern: removing an element, updating an existing element’s type, and filtering out an element by index. It renders apples and lemons as SVG circles with ordinal color and radius scales, placed in a fixed bowl shape. The code uses `d3.select` and data joins with `enter`, `merge`, and `exit` to manage groups, while `setTimeout` triggers the sequential state changes.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern with Bowl

This example demonstrates the general update pattern in D3, showing a bowl of fruit that changes over time as apples are eaten and replaced with lemons. The visualization renders circles and labels inside an SVG, using `d3.scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mapping based on fruit type. Data updates are handled through enter, merge, and exit selections, with circles and text appended to groups. The bowl itself is a static rounded rectangle, while the fruit transitions are driven by timed state changes.
