Impacts of British shipping routes on major cities in January 2015

ASSUMPTIONS

  • The classification of ship types shown in different papers is similar.
  • The ship’s speed is constant under different specific situations, namely in port, in sea and manoeuvre, and they can be calculated averagely.
  • The engine power of the main engine and auxiliary engine are constant and they can be calculated averagely.
  • The city is small enough as a point to be deal with.

A: The pollution degree of shipping routes to major British cities

Introduce

I use a simplified emission model for calculating the emission in each cell per ship. Since I want to convert the length of the trajectory per cell into emission I are aiming to calculate a conversion factor that is _ (g NOx/km), for each ship type .

    Emission per/KW.h

  • Quantification of ship emissions ENTEC" (p.20-21) the emission per kWh (value obtained averaging on two operating modes – “at sea” and “in port”
  • Average power KW

  • HK Study on Marine Vessels Emission Inventory" (p.49+) the average engine poIr (value average of the main and auxiliary engine poIr)
  • Average speed KW/h

  • ICF International - Current Methodologies in Preparing Mobile Source Port-Related Emission Inventories - 2009" (p. 2-10) average speed (value average of the speed “at sea” and “in port”)

B: Ranking of sailing mileage in the ship category

C: Trend of the distance sailed by a ship every hour of the day

D: The relationship between the length of the sailing start and end time and the sailing distance
