D3's general update pattern animates a bowl of fruit as apples are eaten and replaced with lemons. Using `d3.scaleOrdinal` for color and radius, circles enter, update, and exit with 1-second transitions. The code demonstrates data joins via `selection.data`, merging enter and update selections, and removing exit elements after shrinking their radius to zero.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

A bowl of fruit demonstrates D3's general update pattern, showing how data joins handle entering, updating, and exiting circles. Apples and lemons appear as colored circles that animate radius and position when fruits are eaten or replaced. The example uses `d3.scaleOrdinal` for color and radius scales, while `selection.data`, `enter`, `merge`, and `exit` chains manage transitions with `transition.attr` over one-second durations. Random IDs track stable elements across updates, and the SVG renders in a 960×500 viewport driven by timed `setTimeout` state changes.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates D3’s general update pattern for entering, updating, and exiting data joins. Animated over time, a bowl of fruit changes as apples are removed, a lemon replaces one apple, and another apple disappears, with circles and labels updating accordingly. The code uses `d3.scaleOrdinal` for color and radius encoding, `selection.merge` to handle entering and updating elements, and `selection.exit().remove()` for removal. The fruit bowl shape is an SVG rectangle with rounded corners.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates the general update pattern for data joins, showing a bowl of fruit that changes as apples are eaten or replaced by lemons. Using D3 v5 with SVG and animation, it applies `selection.enter`, `selection.merge`, and `selection.exit` to handle dynamic data arrays. The code uses `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius, and `transition().duration()` to animate circles shrinking to zero on exit.

Bowl of Fruit- General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates the general update pattern in D3 by animating a bowl of fruit represented as circles. It shows how data joins handle entering, updating, and exiting elements: apples appear, one is removed, another changes to a lemon, and a third disappears. The code uses `selection.data`, `.enter()`, `.merge()`, `.exit()`, and `transition.attr`. It relies on `d3.scaleOrdinal` for color and radius scales, and renders with SVG circles in a fixed 960×500 viewport. Animated transitions adjust circle positions and radii over one-second durations.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates the general update pattern in D3 v5, animating a bowl of fruit as apples are eaten, replaced with lemons, and removed. It shows how data joins handle enter, update, and exit selections, with circles transitioning their radius and position over one-second durations. The code uses `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mappings, `selection.merge()` to combine enter and update states, and chained `transition().duration()` calls for smooth SVG animations. Random IDs track each fruit, ensuring stable element binding across state changes.

Bowl of fruit General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates D3’s General Update Pattern by animating a bowl of fruit as apples are eaten and one transforms into a lemon. Circles enter, update, and exit with staggered transitions over one-second intervals, smoothly resizing and recoloring via `scaleOrdinal`. Using d3.v5, the code applies `data` joins with key functions, merges enter/update selections, and chains `transition().duration(1000)` for radius and position changes, while exit transitions shrink circles to zero before removal, all rendered in SVG.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update pattern

D3.js demonstrates the General Update pattern with a bowl of fruit where apples and lemons enter, exit, and change type. Using `d3.scaleOrdinal` for color and radius, circles transition smoothly over one second via `transition().duration()`, with enter selections growing from radius zero and exit selections shrinking away. The example shows both the enter-merge-exit structure with keyed data joins and dynamic updates triggered by `setTimeout`.
