This example displays a horizontal bar chart of the top 10 countries by 2020 population, drawn with SVG rectangles. The code loads the dataset with `d3.csv`, uses React state to manage the data, and applies the margin convention by translating an inner group. `d3.scaleBand` and `d3.scaleLinear` position the bars, while `max` scales the width axis.

AI-generated description

A program that loads in some data about CSS named colors using D3 utilities, and uses React state to keep track of the data.

The Margin Convention

This example displays a horizontal bar chart of the top 10 countries by projected 2020 population, encoded as SVG rectangles. The chart uses D3's `scaleBand` and `scaleLinear` to map categorical country names and numerical population values to pixel coordinates. It loads data from a CSV file via `d3.csv` and renders the visualization with React, applying a margin convention to position the plot area within the SVG canvas. The bars are drawn using the `rect` SVG element, with dimensions derived from the scales.

The Margin Convention

This example demonstrates a horizontal bar chart of the top 10 most populous countries in 2020, using D3 scales to map population counts to bar widths and country names to vertical positions. The chart applies the margin convention, translating the SVG group by a fixed margin so the bars fit within the inner chart area. React state manages the fetched CSV data, loaded asynchronously via `d3.csv`, while `d3.scaleBand` and `d3.scaleLinear` handle the scales, and SVG `<rect>` elements render each bar.

The Margin Conventiion

This example visualizes the top 10 countries by 2020 population as a horizontal bar chart, with each bar’s length proportional to its population value. The chart applies a margin convention to position the bars within an SVG, using a band scale for country categories and a linear scale for population magnitudes. Data is loaded from a CSV file using `d3.csv`, while React manages the component state and rendering. Bars are drawn as SVG `<rect>` elements, with axes omitted, and the chart updates after the data asynchronously loads.

Margin Convention

This example demonstrates the margin convention in D3, rendering a horizontal bar chart of population data for the top 10 countries in 2020. The chart displays bars scaled by population using `d3.scaleLinear` and `d3.scaleBand`, with the SVG group translated to respect the defined margins. React manages the component state, loading the CSV data via `d3.csv` before rendering the SVG rectangles.

The Margin Convention

This example shows a horizontal bar chart of the top ten countries by 2020 population, with the bars drawn inside a translated SVG group to demonstrate the margin convention. The chart uses React state to manage the loaded data and conditional rendering to display a loading message. D3 utilities load the CSV data from a GitHub gist, while `scaleBand` and `scaleLinear` position the bars and map population values to widths. The outer SVG measures 960 by 500 pixels, with a 50-pixel margin on each side that defines the inner chart area.

The Margin Convention

This example visualizes the top 10 countries by population in 2020 as horizontal bars. The chart uses the margin convention, arranging a 960 by 500 pixel SVG with a 20-pixel margin on each side. The code loads data from a CSV file using D3's `csv` utility, and then uses React state to manage the data asynchronously. Key D3 APIs include `scaleBand` for the categorical country axis, `scaleLinear` for the population axis, and `max` to compute the domain, with bars rendered as SVG `rect` elements within a transformed group.

The Margin Convention

This example shows a horizontal bar chart of the top 10 countries by population in 2020, loaded from a CSV file. The chart demonstrates the margin convention by offsetting a group of rectangles using an SVG transform. React state manages the asynchronous data loading with `d3.csv`, while the scales `scaleBand` and `scaleLinear` map country names and population counts to the inner chart dimensions. The bars are rendered as SVG `rect` elements within React’s declarative JSX structure.

The Margin Convention

This example demonstrates the D3 margin convention by rendering a horizontal bar chart of the top 10 countries by 2020 population, with a 50-pixel gutter on each side of the SVG canvas. The React app loads data from a CSV file using d3.csv, then uses scaleBand for the categorical y-axis and scaleLinear for the quantitative x-axis. Bars are drawn as SVG rectangles inside a translated group element.
