Animated transitions update a bowl of pudding represented by circles, with chocolate pudding in dark brown and strawberry in pink, moving horizontally and resizing over one second. The visualization uses d3's selection and transition APIs, specifically `.transition().duration()` and `.attr()`, to animate entering, exiting, and changing circles. Data is generated randomly via `Math.random()` for unique IDs, with puddings added and removed over timed intervals, rendered as SVG elements in a 960x500 viewport.

Bowl of Fruit - Animated Transitions

This example demonstrates animated transitions for a data-bound bowl of fruit, showing how elements enter, exit, and update smoothly. It uses D3 v5’s data join with key functions, `transition().duration()`, and ordinal scales for color and radius. The SVG circles represent apples and lemons, with apples being eaten and replaced over time. The code imports `scaleOrdinal` from D3 and executes timed state changes via `setTimeout` to trigger render updates.

Bowl of Fruit - Animated Transitions

A bowl of fruit demonstrates animated transitions as apples and lemons are added, removed, and swapped. The visualization uses D3's `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mapping, `transition` with a 1000-millisecond duration for smooth changes, and `enter`, `merge`, and `exit` selections to handle data updates over time. The SVG circles are positioned horizontally, and the sequential timers trigger state changes.

Bowl of Pudding - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates the general update pattern for data joins, showing how fruits (apples and lemons) transition in and out of a bowl-shaped container. It uses D3 v5 with SVG rendering and animations, applying ordinal scales for color and radius to distinguish fruit types. The code explicitly handles enter, update, and exit selections—though enter and merge are used, while exit removes departing groups. The bowl itself is a static rectangle with rounded corners, and fruit positions are calculated from index values, with transitions animating radius changes over one second.

Bowl of Fruit: Animated Transitions

A bowl of fruit demonstrates animated transitions as apples disappear and one transforms into a lemon over time. The visualization uses D3 v5 with an SVG rendering approach, employing scaleOrdinal for color and radius mappings. The fruitBowl function manages the enter, update, and exit states of grouped circles and text labels, while the index script uses setTimeout to trigger sequential data modifications.

Bowl of Fruit - Animated Transitions

A bowl of fruit demonstrates animated transitions between data states, showing how circles representing apples and lemons appear, move, and disappear. Using D3 v6 with SVG and React, the visualization employs keyed data joins to track fruit identity. The `fruitBowl` function uses `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius, while `transition().duration(1000)` animates position and size changes on enter, update, and exit selections over timed intervals.

Bowl of Fruit - Animated Transitions

A series of fruit-shaped circles animates through add, remove, and type-change transitions as apples are eaten and replaced by lemons. The visualization uses D3 v5’s data join with key functions and `transition().duration()` to morph circle radii and positions over one-second intervals. SVG rendering relies on ordinal scales for color and radius, while `Math.random()` generates unique fruit IDs to track elements across state updates. The code imports `scaleOrdinal`, `select`, and `range` from D3 modules to orchestrate the enter, update, and exit selections.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - Animated Transitions

This example animates transitions between different arrangements of fruit in a bowl, demonstrating how circular objects can smoothly move and resize while maintaining their individual identities. The visualization uses D3 v5 with SVG rendering, leveraging the `scaleOrdinal` function from D3’s color utilities to assign distinct colors to each fruit type. The animation logic is defined in the JavaScript source, which imports `select` and `range` from D3 to manage the transitions. The page uses a fixed 960x500 SVG canvas, with layout handled by CSS that removes margins and hides overflow, creating a seamless visual experience.
