This example demonstrates the General Update Pattern in D3, showing how to handle data changes with enter, update, and exit selections. It animates a bowl of fruit where apples are eaten, added, and replaced with lemons over time. The code uses d3.select, data joins with selection.enter and selection.exit, and scaleOrdinal for color and radius mapping. Rendering is done through SVG circles and text elements within grouped transforms.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates the General Update Pattern in D3 with special cases for data changes. Using d3 v5, it renders a bowl of apples and lemons as SVG circles and text labels, with a custom fruitBowl function handling enter, update, and exit selections. The code uses d3.scaleOrdinal for color and radius mapping, and d3.select and d3.range to manage state. Over timed updates, fruits are removed, one apple is replaced by a lemon, and another apple is filtered out, showing how D3 transitions handle these scenarios.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates the general update pattern in D3.js, showing how data joins handle entering, updating, and exiting elements as a fruit bowl changes over time. Five apples are rendered initially, then an apple is removed, another is replaced by a lemon, and a second apple is deleted. The code uses `selection.data()`, `.enter()`, `.merge()`, and `.exit()` with `transition()` to animate position changes and radius adjustments, while scaleOrdinal maps fruit types to colors and sizes. SVG circles and text labels update accordingly, with exiting elements fading out through a transformed transition before removal.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates the general update pattern in D3 with special cases for enter, update, and exit selections. It shows a bowl of fruit where apples are added, removed, and replaced with lemons over time, using a scaleOrdinal for colors and radii. The code imports scaleOrdinal from d3 and uses selection.merge() to handle overlapping enter and update logic, while exit().remove() cleans up removed elements. The visualization renders with SVG, using data joins on groups, circles, and text elements to reflect state changes.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates the general update pattern for data joins in D3, showing how enter, update, and exit selections handle changing fruit data. A row of apples is rendered as SVG circles and text labels, then modified through three timed transitions: an apple is removed, an apple changes into a lemon, and another apple is eaten. The code uses d3-selection’s `data()`, `enter()`, `merge()`, and `exit()` methods, along with `selection.transition()` for smooth updates. It relies on ordinal scales for color and radius mapping, and the data is hardcoded as JavaScript objects in `d3.range()`.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates the general update pattern in D3.js, showing how the enter, update, and exit selections handle fruit bowl data changes. It uses D3 v5 with SVG rendering to draw circles and text elements. The code explicitly manages data joins with `selection.enter()`, `selection.merge()`, and `selection.exit()`, while `scaleOrdinal` maps fruit types to colors and radii. Timeline-driven actions add, remove, and modify fruits, revealing how the update pattern handles special cases such as keyless data binding and in-place data changes.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates the general update pattern in D3 with special cases for handling data changes, showing a bowl of fruit that evolves as apples are eaten and replaced by a lemon. The code uses `d3.scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mapping, and explicitly manages enter, update, and exit selections with `selection.enter()`, `selection.merge()`, and `selection.exit().remove()`. Rendered as SVG, the visualization animates through four timed transitions via `setTimeout`, modifying the underlying data array and re-calling the `fruitBowl` render function.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates the general update pattern for data joins in D3, showing how enter, update, and exit selections handle changing fruit data over time. A bowl of apples shrinks as fruits are removed, and one apple transforms into a lemon. The code uses `selection.data` with a key function, `enter.append`, `merge`, and `exit.transition` to animate circles with `transition.attr` over one second. It relies on `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius, with `setTimeout` triggering three sequential render calls in D3 v6.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates the general update pattern in D3 with special cases where data enters, exits, and mutates in place. It shows a bowl of fruit where apples are eaten, replaced by lemons, and removed from different positions over time. The visualization uses D3 v5 with `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mapping, and SVG elements (`rect`, `circle`, `text`) bound to data via `selection.data()`. The code explicitly handles enter, update, and exit selections using `merge()` and `.remove()` to manage transitions.
