Five apples render in an SVG bowl, then a visual sequence removes one apple, changes another to a lemon, and deletes a third, demonstrating D3’s general update pattern with enter, update, and exit selections. Using d3.select, selection.merge, and ordinal scales for color and radius, the code binds fruit data to groups and updates circles and text via render calls on timed intervals.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

A bowl of fruit demonstrates D3’s general update pattern by rendering five apples as circles with text labels, then sequentially removing items and replacing one apple with a lemon. The fruitBowl function uses d3.scaleOrdinal for color and radius mapping, while d3.select and selection.merge handle enter, update, and exit transitions. Data-driven transformations position each group, and the SVG updates live via setTimeout calls that modify the fruits array and re-render.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

Five apples appear in a row, then a sequence of timed changes demonstrates the D3.js general update pattern: one apple is removed, another becomes a lemon, and a second apple is removed. The fork renders with SVG circles using D3 v5, leveraging `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mappings. The reusable `fruitBowl` function applies the standard enter, merge, and exit selection workflow with `selection.data`, showing how to handle dynamic data updates in D3.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

Five apples animate into a row, then the sequence removes one, changes one to a lemon, and deletes another, demonstrating the D3 general update pattern’s special cases. The code uses `selection.data`, `enter`, `merge`, and `exit` with `transition.duration`, scaling circle colors by fruit type via `scaleOrdinal`. Rendering is SVG with D3 v5, driven by timed `setTimeout` calls.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates the General Update Pattern in D3, showing how to handle add, remove, and modify operations on SVG fruit shapes. The code uses D3 v5's `selection.enter`, `selection.merge`, and `selection.exit` to update circles and text elements. The iteractive sequence buys apples, then eats one, replaces one with a lemon, and removes another, with each change re-rendering the bowl using the `fruitBowl` function that imports `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mapping.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates the General Update Pattern in D3 with special cases for data changes. Using d3 v5, it renders a bowl of apples and lemons as SVG circles and text labels, with a custom fruitBowl function handling enter, update, and exit selections. The code uses d3.scaleOrdinal for color and radius mapping, and d3.select and d3.range to manage state. Over timed updates, fruits are removed, one apple is replaced by a lemon, and another apple is filtered out, showing how D3 transitions handle these scenarios.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates D3’s general update pattern for changing data arrays, showing how to add, remove, and modify elements in an SVG scene. Five apples are initially drawn, then one is removed, one is replaced by a lemon, and another apple is deleted, with each change re-rendering the bowl. The code uses D3’s `select`, `selectAll`, `enter`, `merge`, and `exit` methods to handle node creation, updating, and removal, alongside `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mapping. The scene renders in SVG with circles and text labels, driven by timed `setTimeout` calls.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates the enter, update, and exit phases of D3’s general update pattern using a bowl of fruit. It shows apples and lemons as SVG circles with labels, transitioning through five sequential state changes: adding apples, removing one, mutating a fruit type, and filtering out a specific index. The code uses `selection.merge()`, `selection.exit()`, and `selection.remove()` to handle dynamic data, with ordinal scales for color and radius. Rendering is SVG-based, and data mutations are driven by `setTimeout` callbacks.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

Fruits appear in a bowl and update over time demonstrating the general update pattern. Initially, five apples are drawn. After one second, an apple is removed. Then an apple changes into a lemon, and finally another apple is removed. The example uses D3’s `selectAll`, `enter`, `merge`, and `exit` methods to handle state changes. Each fruit is rendered as an SVG circle with a label, and the bowl is a rounded rectangle.
