Forked from Making a Bar Chart

This bar chart displays the number of locations for the top 10 largest fast food restaurant chains worldwide, with Subway leading at over 44,000 outlets. Using D3 v5, the code loads data from a CSV file sourced from Wikipedia and renders an SVG with green horizontal bars. It employs `d3.scaleLinear` for the x-axis, `d3.scaleBand` for the categorical y-axis, and `d3.axisLeft` and `d3.axisBottom` for the axes. The bars visually compare chain sizes from Subway down to Hunt Brothers Pizza.

AI-generated description

The top 10 largest fast food restaurant chains in the world

This bar chart displays the top 10 largest fast food restaurant chains by number of locations, using data from Wikipedia. Subway leads with 44,834 outlets, followed by McDonald’s and Starbucks. Built with D3 v5, the visualization uses `scaleLinear` for the x-axis, `scaleBand` for the categorical y-axis, and SVG rectangles to encode quantities. Axes are generated with `axisLeft` and `axisBottom`, and data is loaded from a CSV file.

Making a Bar Chart

This bar chart displays the ten largest fast food restaurant chains worldwide, ranking them by number of locations from Subway’s 44,834 down to Hunt Brothers Pizza’s 7,300. The visualization uses D3 version 5, reading the data from a local CSV file via the `csv` import and selecting the SVG element with the `select` method. Each chain is represented as a steel-blue rectangle rendered in an SVG, with the data sourced from Wikipedia’s list of the largest fast food restaurant chains.

Data Visualization Project

This visualization maps fast food restaurant chains across the United States using a topojson file of U.S. states and a CSV dataset of restaurant locations. A dropdown-style color legend filters the map by chain name, while clicking any state triggers a bar chart showing the top five chains in that province. The chart uses d3.scaleBand for bars and animates transitions, with a close button to hide the chart. Map and chart visuals both leverage d3.geoPath, d3.zoom, and d3 transitions for interactivity.

Data Visualization Project

This interactive visualization maps the locations of major fast food restaurant chains across the United States, with each dot colored by brand. Clicking a state zooms the map and displays a bar chart ranking the top five chains in that state by count, while a color legend filters the map by selected brand. The project uses D3 v5 with `geoAlbersUsa` and `geoPath` for the map, `scaleBand` and `scaleLinear` for the bar chart, and animated transitions for chart updates. Data comes from a CSV of fast food restaurant locations loaded via `d3.csv`, with U.S. state boundaries from a TopoJSON file.

Data Visualization Project

This interactive visualization maps the locations of fast food restaurant chains across the United States, using a geographic projection with `d3.geoAlbersUsa`, `d3.geoPath`, and `d3.zoom` to pan and zoom. Clicking a state or a color legend item filters and animates a bar chart showing the top five chains in that region, built with `d3.scaleLinear`, `d3.scaleBand`, and `d3.axisLeft`. Points and bars are rendered as SVG elements with smooth `transition()` animations, while a clickable "close chart" button toggles the chart’s visibility.

Bar Display

This bar chart displays the top 10 most consumed foods by population, using horizontal bars sorted by value. The data comes from a CSV file with population estimates. The visualization uses d3.scaleLinear and d3.scaleBand to map values and categories, with customized axes via d3.axisBottom and d3.axisLeft. SVG rendering is handled through D3 selections, and tick labels are formatted using d3.format with a custom suffix replacement.

Assignment2-Task2

This stacked bar chart compares the counts of ten fast-food and coffee chains across ten cities in the Dallas area, with each bar segment representing a specific brand's store count per city. The chart uses a horizontal layout, with cities on the y-axis and a linear count scale on the x-axis. The visualization is built with D3.js, using `scaleBand` and `scaleLinear` for axes, `d3.stack()` to aggregate the categorical data, and `scaleOrdinal` with a custom color array for series differentiation. SVG rectangles render the bars, and mouse events trigger a custom tooltip that displays the precise store count for each segment. Interactive highlighting is achieved by adjusting rectangle opacity on hover, while a legend and axis labels clarify the data.

A choropleth-style map of the United States plots fast-food restaurant locations as colored dots, with a legend for chains like McDonald’s and Subway. Clicking a state triggers a bar chart ranking the top five chains there, while hovering highlights states and zooming pans the map. Built with d3.v5, it uses geoAlbersUsa, geoPath, and zoom for the map, and scaleLinear, scaleBand, and transitions for the animated chart. Data loads via CSV, with TopoJSON for state boundaries.
