A bowl of fruit demonstrates special cases in the General Update Pattern with d3.v5, showing how SVG elements animate as apples are added, eaten, and replaced by lemons. Circles and text labels transition in and out over one second, with radius and color scales mapping fruit types. The example uses explicit `selection.selectAll`, `.enter()`, `.merge()`, and `.exit().transition()` calls to handle data-driven updates.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates the D3 general update pattern with special cases, animating a bowl of fruit where apples and lemons are added, removed, and substituted over time. It shows how to handle entering, updating, and exiting SVG elements using `selection.enter()`, `selection.merge()`, and `selection.exit()`. The code uses `d3.scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mapping, and SVG `circle` and `text` elements rendered within groups, with data-driven transforms positioning each fruit.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates the general update pattern with special cases: apples and lemons in a bowl are added, removed, or replaced over time, with D3 transitions handling enter, update, and exit selections. It uses d3.select and data joins to bind fruit objects to SVG groups, with scaleOrdinal for color and radius mapping. The code shows explicit handling of entering elements, merging updates, and removing exits, while also reusing existing circle and text elements within each group. The animation runs on a fixed timeline without user interaction.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases With Animation

A bowl of fruit demonstrates D3’s General Update Pattern with animated enter, update, and exit stages. Multiple apples and lemons are drawn as SVG circles with text labels, using d3.scaleOrdinal for color and radius. The example uses selection.merge and transition.duration to animate position and radius changes when fruits are added, removed, or replaced over timed intervals.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates D3's general update pattern with special cases for entering, updating, and exiting elements. A bowl of fruit (apples and lemons) is rendered as SVG circles and text labels, with transitions over time as fruits are removed or replaced. The code uses `d3.scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mapping, `selection.merge`, and `selection.exit().remove()` to handle data joins. Fruits are imported from a module and rendered in a fixed bowl rectangle.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates the general update pattern in D3.js with special cases for entering, updating, and exiting data. It shows a bowl of fruit where apples are added, eaten, replaced by lemons, and filtered out over time, using animated transitions. The code uses D3 v5’s `selection.enter`, `selection.merge`, `selection.exit`, and `transition.duration` to handle these updates, with ordinal scales for color, radius, and font size. Rendering occurs in an SVG via `circle` and `text` elements.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates the general update pattern with special cases in D3 v5, showing a bowl of fruit that changes over time: apples are eaten, removed, or replaced by lemons. It uses `d3.scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mapping, and SVG circles and text elements rendered within groups. The update flow handles entering, updating, and exiting elements via `selection.enter()`, `merge()`, and `exit().remove()`, with data-driven transforms positioning each fruit. A rectangular bowl shape persists throughout.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

Three fruit replacement scenarios demonstrate the general update pattern in D3: adding, removing, and modifying elements. Animated circles and text labels transition between apples and lemons, while exit selections remove fruit from the bowl. Using `selection.enter`, `selection.merge`, and `selection.exit` with `transition.duration`, the SVG scene updates smoothly with `d3.scaleOrdinal` mapping fruit types to colors and radii.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

The bowl of fruit demonstrates special cases of D3’s general update pattern, showing how enter, update, and exit selections handle data changes. Five apples are drawn as circles with text labels; then an apple is removed, another is swapped for a lemon, and a third is filtered out. The code uses `d3.selectAll`, `data`, `enter`, `merge`, and `exit` to manage SVG groups, with `scaleOrdinal` mapping fruit types to radii and colors. The animation runs via `setTimeout`, with each step re-rendering the bowl shape and fruit positions.
