This example presents a global map of missing migrants, using circles sized by the total number of dead and missing per location. The visualization renders geographic features with `d3.geoNaturalEarth1` and `d3.geoPath`, including graticules, landmasses, and country borders, while proportional circles are drawn over the projected coordinates. The code combines React with D3 v5, loading world atlas TopoJSON data and a CSV of migrant incidents, then scales circle radii using `scaleSqrt`. The map is rendered as SVG with a natural Earth projection, highlighting spatial patterns in the data.

Fork of Fork of Fork of Polished World Map

This map shows the global distribution of migrants who died or went missing in 2019, using circles sized by the square-root-scaled count of total dead and missing. The visualization combines a natural Earth landmass projection with a graticule and sphere outline, rendered in SVG via React components that separate the bubble layer from the geographic base. It uses d3.geoPath for map projection, d3.scaleSqrt for circle sizing, and d3.csv to load the Missing Migrants subset. The map is drawn with d3.geoGraticule for the overlay grid and d3.geoNaturalEarth1 for the projection.

Fork of World Map migrants

This visualization displays a world map with semi-transparent circles marking locations of missing migrants, sized proportionally to the total number of dead and missing individuals. Using React, d3.geoNaturalEarth1, and d3.geoPath, it renders land boundaries, interiors, graticules, and a sphere. Circle radii are scaled with d3.scaleSqrt based on data from a CSV dataset, which is loaded via d3.csv and combined with World Atlas TopoJSON for geographic features.

Fork of Missing Migrants on a Map

A world map displays individual migration events from the Missing Migrants Dataset, with each circle sized by the square-root-scaled count of dead and missing people at that location. D3’s `geoNaturalEarth1` projection and `geoPath` render the sphere, graticules, land, and country interiors from World Atlas TopoJSON, while React components manage the SVG marks. Data loads via D3’s `csv` and `json`, and circle radii use `scaleSqrt` with a maximum radius of 15 pixels.

Fork of Missing Migrants on a Map

This example visualizes the Missing Migrants Dataset, plotting each event as a circle on a world map where circle size encodes the total dead and missing. It renders a Natural Earth projection using `d3.geoNaturalEarth1` and `d3.geoPath`, with graticules and country boundaries from World Atlas TopoJSON. React manages the component state and data loading, while D3’s `scaleSqrt` determines radius scaling from the data’s maximum value. Circles are drawn as SVG elements with partial opacity.

Fork of Missing Migrants on a Map

This visualization displays global missing migrant events on a natural Earth projection using SVG circles sized proportionally to the reported dead and missing per event via a square-root scale. Built with React and D3 v5, it leverages `d3.geoNaturalEarth1`, `geoPath`, and `geoGraticule` for map geometry, while loading country boundaries from the World Atlas TopoJSON and event data from a CSV via `d3.csv`. Landmasses render in light gray with graticules, and semi-transparent teal circles mark incident locations.

Fork of Missing Migrants on a Map

This example visualizes the Missing Migrants Dataset, where each circle represents a single recorded event and its radius encodes the total number of dead and missing. The map uses a Natural Earth projection rendered with `d3.geoPath`, while country boundaries come from the world-atlas TopoJSON file. The visualization is built in React, with size scaling handled by `d3.scaleSqrt` and data loading through `d3.csv`. Each point is drawn as an SVG circle with a semi-transparent fill.

Fork of Missing Migrants on a Map

This visualization displays events from the Missing Migrants Dataset as semi-transparent circles on a natural Earth projection map. Each circle’s radius encodes the total dead and missing count using a square-root scale, with country boundaries and graticules rendered for geographic context. Built with React and D3 v5, it uses d3.geoNaturalEarth1, d3.geoPath, and d3.geoGraticule to project and draw the map, while d3.csv loads the data and d3.scaleSqrt sizes the circles. The map is rendered as SVG, with TopoJSON land and interior boundaries from the World Atlas dataset.

Fork of Missing Migrants on a Map

This visualization displays the Missing Migrants dataset on a world map, with each circle representing a single event where migrants have died or gone missing. The circle radius encodes the total number of dead and missing using a square-root size scale. It renders geographic basemap features using `d3.geoPath` with a Natural Earth projection, including land polygons, graticules, and country interiors from the world-atlas TopoJSON source. The D3 `geoGraticule` and `geoNaturalEarth1` functions generate the map framework, while React manages the state and SVG rendering.
