Forked from Let's make a face with D3.js!

Five circles, colored by a D3 ordinal scale, animate across an SVG canvas as JavaScript modifies an array of fruit objects. The example uses the D3 version 5 API to demonstrate data joins with `enter`, `merge`, and `exit` selections, plus `transition().duration()` to animate radius and position changes over time.

Click to select with D3.js!

Five fruit circles animate into a bowl, each colored by fruit type via a d3.scaleOrdinal color scale. Clicking a circle selects it, giving it a black stroke, while transitions update positions and radii. The example demonstrates data joins with selection.data, enter/merge/exit patterns, and d3.transition for smooth updates, including removal and type changes timed with setTimeout.

Let's make a face with D3.js!

Five fruit circles animate in a row before the viewer, with apples and lemons distinguished by color and size. Hovering over a fruit highlights it with a black stroke, and fruits are removed or changed over time to illustrate dynamic updates. Built with D3.js v5, the example uses `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mappings, and `transition().duration()` to animate position, radius, and removal.

Click to select

Five circles render in an SVG, each representing a fruit. Clicking a circle selects it, applying a black stroke. The visualization uses D3 v5 within a React framework to animate circle radii and colors based on fruit type ("apple" or "lemon") via ordinal scales. The fruitBowl function manages enter, update, and exit transitions, animating radius changes with `transition().duration(1000)`.

Let's make a face with D3.js!

This example demonstrates fundamental D3.js data joins and DOM manipulation by rendering a row of five fruit-colored circles that update when data changes. It uses `d3.select`, `d3.range`, and `d3.scaleOrdinal` to map fruit types to colors, with `selection.enter()`, `merge()`, and `exit()` to handle adding, updating, and removing SVG circles. After an initial render, a pop removes one circle, and a subsequent change re-colors the middle circle from red to yellow, showing dynamic updates driven by array mutations.

Let's make face with D3.js

Five colored circles represent fruits in an SVG chart, using red for apples and yellow for lemons with distinct sizes. On mouseover, a circle animates its radius and adds a black stroke using d3 selection transitions. The visualization updates over time, removing an apple and converting one to a lemon via setTimeout, demonstrating d3’s data join with enter, update, and exit methods.

hovering test

Five circles represent fruit in an SVG bowl, using d3.scaleOrdinal for color and radius mapping. Hovering over a circle highlights it with a black stroke via mouseover and mouseout events. Circles animate in and out with a one-second d3 transition, while the dataset changes over time by removing fruit and mutating one apple into a lemon. Rendering uses d3 v5 with the enter, merge, and exit pattern for data joins.

Let's make a face!

Five fruit circles appear in a row as apples, then one is removed and another turns into a lemon, demonstrating D3's enter, update, and exit selections. The example uses d3.scaleOrdinal to map fruit types to colors and radii, with selection.data and selection.enter handling the dynamic changes. Rendered as SVG circles on a 960 by 500 canvas, the visualization shows how data joins update the DOM over time through setTimeout callbacks.

A dynamic bowl of fruit demonstrates D3 v6 data joins and transitions. Five circles representing apples render in an SVG, updating as fruits are removed or changed to lemons over timed intervals. Using `selection.data` with key functions, `enter`, `merge`, and `exit` selections animate position, radius, and color via `transition().duration()`. A `scaleOrdinal` maps fruit types to fill colors and radii. Clicking a circle logs to the console, though no visible selection occurs.
