Forked from Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

Five fruit shapes animate in and out of a basket, demonstrating the general update pattern with enter, update, and exit selections. D3 v5’s `scaleOrdinal` maps fruit types to colors and radii, while `transition().duration()` animates circle growth. The code mutates an array over timed intervals, triggering re-renders that move, recolor, and remove SVG elements.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

A bowl of fruit animates through the general update pattern, using SVG circles and text labels that change shape, color, and position over time. The code employs `d3.scaleOrdinal` for fruit color and size mappings, while `selection.data`, `enter`, `merge`, and `exit` manage dynamic updates. Transitions with `transition().duration(1000)` animate attribute changes, and `setTimeout` triggers sequential mutations—removing an item, altering a fruit's type, and filtering the array—to demonstrate data-driven re-rendering in d3.v5.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

Five fruit circles animate in and out of an SVG bowl, entering with a radius of zero and exiting by shrinking back to zero. The example demonstrates the D3 general update pattern through enter, update, and exit selections, binding data by a random `id` key. The code uses `selection.merge`, `transition().duration()`, and scale functions `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius. A sequence of timeouts removes, mutates, and filters the fruit array, highlighting how D3 reconciles data changes with animated, smooth transitions.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

A bowl of fruit demonstrates the D3 general update pattern as circles and labels enter, update, and exit with animated transitions. The example uses D3 v5's `selection.data`, `selection.enter`, `selection.merge`, and `selection.exit` to manage SVG groups. `d3.scaleOrdinal` maps fruit types to colors and radii, while chained `transition.duration` calls animate position, size, and fill over one second. The code mutates a fruits array at timed intervals—removing items, changing a type, and filtering—to show how the visualization responds. Rendering is SVG-based.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

Five circles represent apples in a bowl, rendered as red SVG circles via a custom D3 module. The animation demonstrates the general update pattern: fruits enter with a growing radius, update color and position when types change, and exit by shrinking. Using d3.select, scaleOrdinal for color and radius scales, and transition().duration(1000) with attr tweens, the code applies sequential changes at one-second intervals, modifying the fruit array to trigger enter, update, and exit transitions.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

An animated bowl of fruit demonstrates D3’s general update pattern, showing five fruits that disappear or change type over time. The SVG visualization uses a single reusable `fruitBowl` function, which binds data arrays to `g` groups via `selection.data()`, then handles enter, update, and exit selections with `enter().append()`, `merge()`, and `exit().remove()`. Fruit appearance relies on `scaleOrdinal` color and radius scales, while timed `setTimeout` calls trigger data mutations—removing apples or replacing one with a lemon—to illustrate smooth transitions in the rendered circles and labels.

Bowl of Fruit-General Update Pattern

Five fruit circles render as apples and shift position, change type, or disappear over time. The example demonstrates D3’s general update pattern with data joins, using `selection.enter`, `merge`, and `exit` to handle entering, updating, and exiting elements. Each state transition animates circle radius and position via `transition().duration(1000)`, while `scaleOrdinal` maps fruit type to color and size. The visualization uses an SVG rendering approach with D3 v5 and randomly generated fruit IDs as the data source.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates the D3 general update pattern with a bowl of fruit rendered as animated SVG circles. Five apples appear, then transition through enter, update, and exit phases as fruits are removed or transformed into lemons. The code uses d3.scaleOrdinal for color and radius mappings, selection.data with a key function, and chained .transition().duration() calls to animate circle attributes. Fruit identities are tracked via random IDs, allowing smooth morphing between states over a three-second timeline.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

Five circles representing apples animate into a bowl, then morph through enter, update, and exit phases. The general update pattern is demonstrated as fruits are eaten, replaced with lemons, and filtered, with each change triggering smooth transitions. The example uses d3’s selection joins, scaleOrdinal for color and radius, and chained transition calls over three seconds. Data is random-generated in index.js and rendered as SVG circles.
