Forked from need some fruit - General Update Patterns

Five pieces of fruit sit in a bowl as apples are eaten, replaced with lemons, and filtered away in sequence. Built with D3 v5, the example demonstrates general update patterns through the enter, update, and exit selections, animating circle radii with `transition().duration()`. A color scale maps fruit types to red or gold, while the data join keys on randomized IDs to track individual elements.

need some fruit - General Update Patterns

This example demonstrates D3.js general update patterns by rendering a bowl of fruit as colored circles that change over time. The visualization shows apples and lemons entering, exiting, and updating their position, size, and color through staggered transitions. Using the `data` join with key functions and `merge`, the code animates SVG circles via `transition().duration()`, applying `scaleOrdinal` color and radius scales based on fruit type. The data source is a JavaScript array modified with `setTimeout` calls to simulate eating and replacing fruit.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

A row of fruit icons demonstrates the D3 general update pattern, cycling through adding, removing, and modifying apples and lemons over timed intervals. The visualization uses SVG circles and text labels, with `selection.enter()`, `merge()`, and `exit()` to handle data joins, and `transition().duration(1000)` for smooth color and radius changes. D3 ordinal scales map fruit types to fill colors and radii, while `setTimeout` triggers sequential data updates.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates the D3 general update pattern for data joins, showing a bowl of fruit that changes over time as apples are eaten or replaced with lemons. The visualization uses D3 v5 with SVG rendering, where circles and text labels are bound to an array of fruit objects. The code explicitly handles enter, update, and exit selections through `selection.merge()` and `selection.exit().remove()`, while `scaleOrdinal` maps fruit types to colors and radii. A series of `setTimeout` callbacks triggers state changes, animating the transitions between the three fruit configurations.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

Five apples animate into a row, then the sequence removes one, changes one to a lemon, and deletes another, demonstrating the D3 general update pattern’s special cases. The code uses `selection.data`, `enter`, `merge`, and `exit` with `transition.duration`, scaling circle colors by fruit type via `scaleOrdinal`. Rendering is SVG with D3 v5, driven by timed `setTimeout` calls.

Fork of Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates the general update pattern in D3, showing how fruit shapes transition as apples are eaten, replaced with a lemon, and filtered out over time. An SVG bowl displays colored circles, with apples in red and lemons in yellow, positioned horizontally. The code uses D3 v5’s `selectAll`, `enter`, `merge`, and `exit` methods to handle data joins, along with `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mapping. Sequential `setTimeout` calls trigger state changes, while the `fruitBowl` function updates circle attributes based on the current fruit array.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

A dynamic SVG animation demonstrates the general update pattern for data joins, showing how enter, update, and exit selections handle changing fruit data. Five apples initially render as red circles, then sequentially: one apple is removed, one becomes a lemon, and another is filtered out. The code uses `d3.selectAll('circle').data(fruits)` with `.enter()`, `.merge()`, and `.exit()` methods, applying `transition().duration(1000)` for smooth radius changes. Fruit types map to colors and sizes via `scaleOrdinal`, with circles transitioning between states before removal.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates the general update pattern in D3.js, showing how data joins handle entering, updating, and exiting elements as a fruit bowl changes over time. Five apples are rendered initially, then an apple is removed, another is replaced by a lemon, and a second apple is deleted. The code uses `selection.data()`, `.enter()`, `.merge()`, and `.exit()` with `transition()` to animate position changes and radius adjustments, while scaleOrdinal maps fruit types to colors and sizes. SVG circles and text labels update accordingly, with exiting elements fading out through a transformed transition before removal.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

Five apples appear in a row, then a sequence of timed changes demonstrates the D3.js general update pattern: one apple is removed, another becomes a lemon, and a second apple is removed. The fork renders with SVG circles using D3 v5, leveraging `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mappings. The reusable `fruitBowl` function applies the standard enter, merge, and exit selection workflow with `selection.data`, showing how to handle dynamic data updates in D3.
