A data join demonstrates the D3 general update pattern as a bowl of fruit changes over time. Apples enter, exit, and transition into lemons, with fruitBowl using `selection.data`, `enter`, and `exit` to bind SVG groups. D3 transitions animate opacity and position, while ordinal scales map fruit types to circle colors and radii. The animated SVG renders in an HTML page using d3 v5.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates the general update pattern for data joins, showing a bowl of fruit that changes as apples are eaten or replaced by lemons. Using D3 v5 with SVG and animation, it applies `selection.enter`, `selection.merge`, and `selection.exit` to handle dynamic data arrays. The code uses `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius, and `transition().duration()` to animate circles shrinking to zero on exit.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates the D3 general update pattern with a bowl of fruit animation. It shows how data joins handle entering, updating, and exiting elements: apples disappear, one apple transforms into a lemon, and fruit positions shift accordingly. The code uses `selection.data()`, `selection.enter()`, `selection.exit()`, and `selection.merge()` within a custom `fruitBowl` function, animating circle radii via `transition().duration(1000)`. Fruits are generated with `d3.range` and `Math.random()` IDs, rendered as SVG circles and text elements with a `scaleOrdinal` color scale.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

This example demonstrates the general update pattern in D3, showing how data joins handle adding, removing, and modifying elements in a visualization. A bowl of apples and lemons is rendered as SVG circles that transition between states as fruits are eaten or replaced over timed intervals. The code uses `d3.scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mapping, and calls `fruitBowl` as a reusable function that leverages `selection.enter()`, `selection.merge()`, and `selection.exit()` with `transition.attr` for smooth animations. The data consists of generated fruit objects with random IDs, visualized in a fixed SVG canvas.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates the general update pattern in D3, showing how data joins handle entering, updating, and exiting elements. A row of apples transitions over time as fruits are eaten, replaced with lemons, and removed. The visualization uses D3 v5’s selection methods, including `selection.enter()`, `selection.merge()`, and `selection.exit()`, along with ordinal scales for color and radius. SVG circles and text labels are rendered with transitions that delay text updates, illustrating dynamic data changes in a static bowl of fruit.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates the general update pattern for data joins, showing how fruits enter, update, and exit as the dataset changes over time. A bowl of apples and lemons is rendered as color-coded circles with differing radii, and users see animations as apples are eaten or replaced. The code uses D3 v5’s `selectAll` with key functions, `.enter()`, `.merge()`, and `.exit()` to manage transitions, along with `scaleOrdinal` for color and size. The SVG is drawn in React and animated via `.transition().duration(1000)`, updating circle positions and radii.

Bowl of Fruit- General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates the general update pattern in D3 by animating a bowl of fruit represented as circles. It shows how data joins handle entering, updating, and exiting elements: apples appear, one is removed, another changes to a lemon, and a third disappears. The code uses `selection.data`, `.enter()`, `.merge()`, `.exit()`, and `transition.attr`. It relies on `d3.scaleOrdinal` for color and radius scales, and renders with SVG circles in a fixed 960×500 viewport. Animated transitions adjust circle positions and radii over one-second durations.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates the general update pattern for data joins in D3.js, showing how fruit elements enter, update, and exit within an animated SVG bowl. Apples and lemons are rendered as colored circles with labels, transitioning smoothly as fruits are removed or replaced over timed intervals. The code uses D3 v5 selections with `data()`, `enter()`, `merge()`, and `exit()` to manage DOM elements, employing `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mapping and `transition().duration()` for animations.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

A fruit bowl demonstrates the General Update Pattern for data joins. Apples and lemons enter, update, and exit with smooth transitions, changing shape, color, or position. The example uses d3-selection’s `data()`, `enter()`, `merge()`, and `exit()` methods, with `transition().duration()` animating circle radii and fills. A d3.scaleOrdinal maps fruit types to colors and sizes, while an SVG rect forms the bowl.
