A D3 v6 demonstration shows a bowl of fruit rendered as SVG circles and text labels, with apples and lemons distinguished by color and size via `d3.scaleOrdinal`. The code uses the general update pattern to handle entering, updating, and exiting elements, animating radius changes with `transition().duration()`. Timed `setTimeout` calls remove fruits, change an apple’s type to a lemon, and filter the array, illustrating how data joins update the visualization.

Untitled

A bowl of fruit demonstrates animated updates to a D3 data join. Apples and lemons are drawn as circles using `d3.scaleOrdinal` for color and size, with fruits entering, exiting, and changing type over time. The code uses `selection.data`, `merge`, and `transition` to smoothly move, resize, and remove circles. D3 v6 is loaded from a CDN, and the visualization runs on an SVG in a minimal HTML page.

A dynamic bowl of fruit demonstrates D3 v6 data joins and transitions. Five circles representing apples render in an SVG, updating as fruits are removed or changed to lemons over timed intervals. Using `selection.data` with key functions, `enter`, `merge`, and `exit` selections animate position, radius, and color via `transition().duration()`. A `scaleOrdinal` maps fruit types to fill colors and radii. Clicking a circle logs to the console, though no visible selection occurs.

Untitled

A bowl of fruit demonstrates the general update pattern for SVG groups in D3 version 6. An array of apples renders as green circles with labels, then a series of timed browser callbacks removes items, replaces an apple with a yellow lemon, and filters the array, showing how enter, update, and exit transitions handle each change. The code uses `selection.selectAll`, `groups.enter()`, and `.merge()` from the `d3` module, with `scaleOrdinal` mapping fruit types to colors and radii.

Untitled

A bowl of fruit demonstrates the D3.js general update pattern with animated transitions. Circles represent apples and lemons, color-coded via a d3.scaleOrdinal and sized with another ordinal scale. The example renders to SVG and uses d3.transition to animate entering, updating, and exiting elements over one-second intervals. State changes—removing fruit, changing an apple to a lemon, and filtering the array—trigger the React-wrapped fruitBowl function to update the visualization dynamically.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - D3 Update (With Labels)

This example demonstrates a dynamic fruit bowl visualization where apples are eaten and replaced with lemons over time, with labels showing each fruit’s type. Using D3 v7’s data joins and `transition()`, circles and text elements update smoothly, while `scaleOrdinal` maps fruit types to colors and sizes. The SVG rendering animates changes triggered by `setTimeout`, showing enter, update, and exit selections as the dataset mutates.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern .js

This example demonstrates D3's general update pattern by showing a bowl of fruit that changes over time. Apples and lemons render as SVG circles with distinct colors and radii via `scaleOrdinal` color and radius scales. The `fruitBowl` function binds fruit data to circle and text elements, using `enter`, `merge`, and `exit` selections to handle additions, updates, and removals. Timed `setTimeout` callbacks trigger transitions by eating apples, replacing one with a lemon, and filtering data.

Let's make a face with D3.js!

Five fruit circles animate in and out of an SVG bowl as apples are eaten and one apple transforms into a lemon. The example demonstrates D3.js v6 data joins with enter, update, and exit selections, using `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius, and `transition().duration(1000)` to smoothly resize and remove circles. `setTimeout` triggers sequential state changes, showing how reusable chart functions like `fruitBowl` respond to changing data arrays.

Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

This example demonstrates the D3.js general update pattern with an animated bowl of fruit, showing apples and lemons as circles with color-coded fills. The code uses `selection.data()`, `selection.enter()`, and `selection.exit()` to manage joining data to SVG elements, with `transition().duration(500)` animating circle radii and text positions on updates. A `scaleOrdinal` maps fruit types to colors and sizes, while timed `setTimeout` calls trigger sequential data mutations—removing items, changing types, and adding fruits—to illustrate enter, update, and exit transitions. The rendering relies on D3 v5 within a React framework, using SVG and explicit animation transitions.
