Forked from Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern

A line of five apple circles transitions through a sequence of updates: one apple is removed, the third fruit changes from apple to lemon, and another apple is deleted. The visualization demonstrates data joins with `d3.enter` and `d3.exit`, using `scaleOrdinal` to map fruit type to color and radius. Each circle is paired with a text label, positioned via SVG group transforms within a React-rendered `d3.v5` selection. Animation occurs through `setTimeout` calls that mutate the fruit array and re-render.

Fork of Fork of Bowl of Fruit - Hover to Select

Using D3 v5, this visualization displays a row of five apples as colored circles that animate in size and position. Hovering over any fruit highlights it with a black stroke and clears the selection on mouseout. The code uses `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius, `transition().duration()`, and a data join with `enter`, `merge`, and `exit`. Over time, `setTimeout` calls remove apples or change one to a lemon, demonstrating animated updates to the SVG scene.

Fork of bowl of apples

A fork of a bowl of apples demonstrates a simple data join animation using D3 v7 within a React setup, rendering SVG circles. It shows five fruit objects, initially all apples, that are drawn in a row. After one second, an apple is removed from the end of the array, and the exiting circle exits. A moment later, the middle apple's type is changed to a lemon, which updates its color and radius via scaleOrdinal mappings. The code uses select, range, and scaleOrdinal to manage the visualization.

Nested update

A D3 v7 SVG animation demonstrates nested join updates for a fruit bowl. Five apples render as colored circles with labels; timed updates remove items, change an apple to a lemon, and filter the array. The code uses `selection.data()` with a key function, enter/merge/exit selections, and `selection.transition()` to animate circle radii and group transforms. The example imports `scaleOrdinal` from d3 for color and radius mapping, showing dynamic data-binding patterns.

Hey there, fruity nesty!

A fruit bowl holds five apples rendered as SVG circles, which shrink as apples are eaten and transform one apple into a lemon over time. The example uses d3-v5 with `scaleOrdinal` for color and radius mapping, and demonstrates data joins via `selection.merge` and exit/remove patterns. State changes trigger re-renders through `fruitBowl`, showing how nested groups animate position and size for each fruit type.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

Five apples animate into a row, then the sequence removes one, changes one to a lemon, and deletes another, demonstrating the D3 general update pattern’s special cases. The code uses `selection.data`, `enter`, `merge`, and `exit` with `transition.duration`, scaling circle colors by fruit type via `scaleOrdinal`. Rendering is SVG with D3 v5, driven by timed `setTimeout` calls.

Fruit - Update Pattern - Nested

An animated SVG demonstrates a nested update pattern for fruit data, showing an array of apples that lose elements and transform one into a lemon through time-based transitions. Five circles render initially, then sequential actions remove the last fruit, change the third fruit's type, and delete another element. The visualization uses d3 transitions with a 1000ms duration for positions, colors, and radii, while exit animations shrink removed elements to zero radius over 2000ms. The code applies d3.scaleOrdinal for color and radius mappings, and d3-selection’s enter/merge/exit pattern to handle nested circle and text elements.

Fork of Fork of Practic 06 | Bowl of Fruit

Five apples arranged as circles transition in and out of a bowl over time, with one apple turning into a lemon. The example demonstrates enter, update, and exit selections using D3 v5 data joins, where circles animate their radius and fill color via d3-transition. Fruit positions and sizes are mapped through ordinal scales for color and radius. Timed callbacks trigger changes to the fruit array, showing smooth visual updates as elements are added, removed, or modified.

Fork of Bowl of Fruit - General Update Pattern Special Cases

A dynamic SVG animation demonstrates the general update pattern for data joins, showing how enter, update, and exit selections handle changing fruit data. Five apples initially render as red circles, then sequentially: one apple is removed, one becomes a lemon, and another is filtered out. The code uses `d3.selectAll('circle').data(fruits)` with `.enter()`, `.merge()`, and `.exit()` methods, applying `transition().duration(1000)` for smooth radius changes. Fruit types map to colors and sizes via `scaleOrdinal`, with circles transitioning between states before removal.
